I came upon this selection by chance. Irwin's book, The New Science of Color (1915) was an early exploration of the influence of color on human activity. Irwin's theories influenced modernist painters, including Georgia O'Keefe. Interior designers were another group who took up her ideas, experimenting with painting rooms "soothing colors," in efforts to aid the recovery of wounded World War I soldiers.

Hello svonb002, Welcome to LibriVox! Thank you for participating in the 13th Anniversary Collection! I've signed you up for your two choices. If you have any questions as you record, please feel free to post them here. By the way, I listened to the poem you read as your first LibriVox contribution, and it was very nicely read!
Here is my first submission.

Welcome to LibriVox! We're pleased you've chosen the 13th Anniversary Collection for your first recording! I've signed you up for this most interesting poem!
Before you actually record the poem, there is one thing we ask you to do, and that is to make a short "test recording" on your recording equipment. You will find the instructions on how to make this equipment test here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/1-Minute_Test. You will be reading a short paragraph which begins ”People were pleased to find . . .” Please understand that this reading is NOT an audition (we accept all readers); it’s just to be sure the specifications for your recording are what LibriVox needs. When your 1-minute test is complete, you will want to post it on this Librivox forum: viewforum.php?f=21. A volunteer with recording expertise will listen and help you along. When they say you’re ready to do an actual recording, you’re ready for John Quincy Adams.
If you have any questions along the way, we'll be glad to try to answer them.
Regards,
