Multilingual Short Works Collection 020 - Poetry & Prose

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/multilingual-short-works-collection-020-poetry-prose-by-various/

This collection is for short works, in any language except (modern) English. This can include poetry but also prose, fiction as well as non-fiction.
Feel free to choose any work which is in the public domain. If you're unsure what we mean by 'public domain', please read this explanation. Try to stick to works that run less than 60 minutes.
Please follow the instructions in this post carefully. :) There is no need to "sign-up" before recording; please remember that you should choose a work that is Public Domain in your country AND that was published before 1923; if you are unsure about anything, please post here and ask before recording!

Everyone can contribute as many recordings as he/she wants.
It's OK to submit readings in English (English being a language, I figure), but as there are plenty of other places to put those, let's limit them to special cases such as interesting regional dialects or accents.

If you are interested to see what has been done previously, check the previous Multilingual Collections in our catalog (but we welcome multiple versions of the same work).

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Kevin Stroud, the host of "The History of English Podcast" http://historyofenglishpodcast.com/ , has generously donated a recording of a poem in Middle English. He doesn't have time to post it himself so I am his surrogate. Please let me know if anything needs to be fixed. I've been working with Kevin to make sure the recording is just right, and I have already PL'd it. Kevin understands the implications of Public Domain.

how cool is this :9: I just had a short sneak listen into this and it sounds really great. I have studied Old and Middle English myself at university, so whenever he wants to upload another one, I'd be thrilled to PL it. Maybe I should try to get a short OE text in as well one day. :hmm: So OE and ME don't count as English and are perfectly acceptable for the Multilingual project ? Great.

and another great reading, Livia :9: I did not understand all of it but it sounds very lyrical, like some nature description. Is it about a river flowing ? Especially the beginning sounds like it.

Totally PL ok. Thanks !

Thank you, Sonia! :D

You are right! The flow of the river...and the flow of the hours...
I hope, you will understand my English.
''Timpul'' (The Time) is a beautiful poem.  Every hour of our lives is precious. A little description:

A wonderful evening! On the bank of a river, a young man rests after having traveled some of his way. The last rays of the sun, then the moon and the stars, illuminate the waves of the silent river. A particularly beautiful boat appears on the river. In this boat is a group of girls (hours). Then, in that boat, comes a man with silver hair (The Time). Through a charming song, the girls invite the young traveler in their beautiful boat. Unfortunately, the young man does not rush to get to that boat. The boat runs on the river, and disappears. In vain, the young traveler is still trying to get that boat ... because The Time has passed.

Best regards,

Livia

Hello everybody!!

I would like to contribute with one text, the first public document about the arrival of a "New World" by european people, so I think is interesting to have such a historical document in our librivox library!! :D At the bottom, I just add some information because I thought of create a new proyect for that, but is only one section and I was told that probably would fit better in this collection. Let me know anything to do or change. Thanks!!

Name of author - Cristóbal Colón
Birth date and date of death of author if available (1451 - 1506)

Brief indication of the work in a few words: Carta, Conquistadores, Descubrimiento América, Historia, Biografías//Letter, Conquistador, Historical Documents, Biography, New World
