Uncle Silas: A Tale of Bartram-Haugh by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu (1814 - 1873).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/uncle-silas-a-tale-of-bartram-haugh-by-joseph-sheridan-le-fanu/

Maud Ruthyn, the young, naive heroine, has a governess who is an enigmatic older woman, a liar, bully, and spy, who takes a dark secret with her when she leaves. Maud is then orphaned and moves in with her Uncle Silas, her father's mysterious brother and a man with a scandalous--even murderous--past. She is horrified to find her former governess appears in her life again, in this Gothic Victorian psychological thriller, with a touch of the occult ( Lynne Thompson)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/14851
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Chapter 1 is ready.
And I readily admit I was ignorant of Swedenborgians (and even thought the author had made them up  ) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_Church_(Swedenborgian)

Hi Lynne, chapters 1 and 2 are PL OK.

That's interesting about the Swedenborgians, I'd never heard of them, either. :)

Both Chapters (3 and 4) are PL OK.

I'll enter it in the MW next time I'm at my laptop.

Poor Maud, first that man telling her sinister stories, and then that governess!

There's a repeat in Chapter 5 at 5:06: as for madame (just cut it out, you have the correct order immediately afterwards)

Chapter 5 is ready for spot PL and chapter 7 is ready for PL.

I was reading another book, which referred to Le Fanu's book Carmilla; I was looking for that (it's already in our catalogue) so decided to see what else he wrote :D

Sorry, I only just saw there were two more chapters.

Ch 7 is PL ok, and in
ch 8 I have a question: at 1:02 you say he was a flat man -- sounds a little odd, was he a fat man?

Downloading the next two ch now.
