Flemington by Violet Jacob (1863 - 1946).

This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project https://librivox.org/flemington-by-violet-jacob/

This adventure historical fiction novel is set in Angus, Scotland during the Jacobite rebellion of 1745. It has all the element of a good war novel: spies, betrayals, politics, and even a love story (but not quite what you expect). This is a smart novel with wise insights into human nature, the different choices people make during a conflict, and the coping mechanisms of those who were left behind. This novel will make you laugh, cry, and fall in love with the landscape of Scotland. ( Stav Nisser.)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/55361
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

      notes:
      1. Chapters lengths are indicated by number of pages. Each page might take about two minutes of reading.
      2. The etext is fully accessible with page numbers so future mcs would not have to worry about my filling in the mw.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I know this isn't quite off the ground. But I would love to DPL if no one else wants too.

Sure will! It seems right up my alley. I love books that centre around Scotland. George Macdonald is one of my favourite authors so...

Just wondering if you are doing this yourself or if it is a group project or...?

My recording level problem is even worse than it was yesterday. I need to get my ducks in a row before I begin. I'm sorry I jumped the gun. :(

The other day I DID get Checker to accept my poem, but today, well ... it's a big old mess.

I remember, getting my volume inside the LV limits was the trickiest part of my beginnings as well. There is a great plug-in for Audacity, if you use that program. It calculates you the exact amount by which you need to amplify or decrease your volume to get to the coveted 89 dB. I use it all the time for my recordings and never had problems with Checker after using Replay Gain:
Replay Gain plugin for Audacity: - http://forum.audacityteam.org/download/file.php?id=4668

1. Save the file to your computer - your desktop or somewhere where you can easily find it.
2. Now browse to the folder in which Audacity is installed. It's probably in C:\Program Files\Audacity) and then open the Plug-Ins folder.
3. Drag the file you saved into the Plug-Ins folder.
4. When next you start up Audacity, you will be able to select the whole recording (Ctrl+A on Windows), then go to Analyze | ReplayGain, and it'll tell you how much to amplify your file to get to about 89 dB.
if you still have questions, don't hesitate to ask. :) It will get easier with each new recording, no worries.

Thank you, Sonia! I spent a little bit of time with YouTube videos today pertaining to Audacity and Librivox. I finally think I understand! I will add ReplayGain to the mix as well. And THEN I will claim a chapter or two. :)
