Shaggy Man in Oz by Jack Snow (1907 - 1956).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/shaggy-man-of-oz-by-jack-snow/

Volunteers outside the USA: Jack Snow died in 1956. The author's work is still protected by copyright in places like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years and Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955), UNLESS the rule of shorter term applies. This book is PD in Canada (author's death plus 50 years).
The Shaggy Man of Oz (1949) is the thirty-eighth in the series of Oz books created by L. Frank Baum and his successors, and the second by Jack Snow. Jack Snow modernised Oz, so this book has airplanes and TV screens, but he otherwise based his work strictly on Frank Baum's original material.

Abbadiah and Zebbidiah Jones are twins from Buffalo, New York; they prefer to go by their nicknames, Twink and Tom. While the twins are watching the TV one afternoon, the normal picture changes into a strangely beautiful scene with a castle in the background. They are confronted by a living toy clown, a duplicate of the familiar toy they have named Twoffle. This living version, who calls himself Twiffle, persuades them to walk into the screen before them; the two children find themselves magically transported into Oz where they meet Princess Ozma, the Nome King, the King of the Fairy Beavers and many other beloved places and characters from Frank Baum's original Oz books, and some from "John Dough and the Cherub" also by Frank Baum. (Summary will be amended before cataloguing) (Beth Thomas and Wikipedia)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/56683
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Yes please! As soon as we have a MW I'll set it up and we will be ready for claims!

As the Captain Salt project is finishing up I will redirect readers from that project to this one.

I'll read the introduction myself.

MW is all filled in! :9:

Actually, I note that all the chapters except for one are very short - would this project be better in the Short Works forum or in the main book forum? I don't mind either way, but with a DPL and ready for claims we are ready to go there! ;)

Greetings -

Sections 1-3 are PL OK.

One concern, though. Your recordings have occasional audio spikes of loudness. Not serious enough to cause distortion, but noticeably louder than the other parts of the recording. It might be something as simple moving away from the microphone a bit.

Other than that, nicely read, Nan.

Thank you. I will move away from the mic a little and see how that works.

CAN I have the next three chapters? :D

Yes, you can have the next three chapters - I just wanted the PL feedback first.

The other thing about sibilance is that it can be caused by air hitting the mic. You can fix this by with moving the mic slightly away from directly in front of your mouth or by making/buying a pop filter. I use two layers of stocking over a coat hanger, but there are commercial ones out there pretty cheaply as well.

PS - Are you noise cleaning? There is a lot of background noise in your recordings.
