Hi! I’m Emma from East Yorkshire in the UK. I have been a stay at home mum since 2007 to my two daughters (and cats and my beagle!!)

In the last 5 years I’ve started working from home, and I’m about to start socialising and training hearing dogs dor the deaf, so I was looking for a lovely way to use my acting degree also at home and audiobooks seemed the natural choice.

I have a home setup coming together, but I would love to get some good experience and practice and valuable feedback from all of you who know what they’re talking about!

Thanks for having me!

hi Emma and welcome to the forum :)

wow I have never heard of hearing dogs. So will they alert the people if the doorbell is ringing, that sort of thing ? Interesting.

I hope you'll have lots of fun here, and will find plenty of projects to tuck into. The best way to start would be doing a one-minute test to check your technical set up. You can post the recording in a new thread in the Listeners Wanted forum and someone will give you feedback on that. As soon as you get the ok for your test, you are free to participate in any project that is available :D

Oh and since you mention acting degree...I hope I see you in our drama subforum soon :9:

Good luck and if there are any questions, don't hesitate to ask. We're a friendly bunch here and usually don't bite.

Hi!

Yes that's exactly the kind of things hearing dogs do! They are basically first "ear" responders for deaf people. I don't do that aspect of their training, but I will be doing all their basic puppy training, toilet training, recall etc...

I've been having a right to-do with my mic set up but I think I have finally got it sorted. I can't do much recording over the weekend with a house full of kids, but on Monday I will definitely get on with that 1 minute test. I'm very very excited about all of this! Will definitely give the drama forum a look too!

Thanks for the warm welcome xx

Ah, another dog trainer. I have agility dogs, and our dog club has a few service dog trainers as well who take/teach our obedience classes. Aren't dogs amazing!!!!!! So smart, and so loyal. Once you get your test OKayed, I invite you to check out my ongoing project, The American Book Of The Dog. There is still one short section over there which could be a great place to get in some practice recording, editing, uploading files, etc. I'd be happy to help you learn the ropes.
