Okay, here is the new file. Thank you.

I thought I had rechecked section 2 but I don't see any notes on that one. I'll get to that soon. (But not right now - the real world wants my attention.)

Is there a way that I can check the level on my own? I really do apologize if it is readily apparent, but I have looked all over and cannot see a level. I see where to set the level of recording volume, but not how to check the level of the finished product.

I think you accidently re-uploaded your first version - the file is exactly the same size and I get the same volume measurement.

Yes, there are a couple ways.

1) If you are using Audacity, it probably has the ReplayGain plug-in. Depending on your version of Audacity it may be somewhere in Analyze or Effect menus (on my computer it's in Effect >> Plug-Ins 1 to 15. To use it select your whole recording and run ReplayGain - it will take several seconds to go through your entire recording, then a box will pop up saying something like "ReplayGain level: -3.8 dB." Remember that number. Then with the whole recording still selected run Effect >> Amplify, put the number (-3.8 in this example) in the Amplification box and click OK. Your chapter should then be at the right volume. See this Audacity thread for more: https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=63067

2) You can get the Checker program. It's available for Windows, Mac, Linux - as long as your computer has Java (not Javascript) version 6.
See: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Checker in the LibriVox Wiki
and/or watch Phil Chinevert describe how to use it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkhk0megqHE&feature=youtu.be
In addition to the recording level, Checker will warn you about possible mp3 format errors. It also makes a guess about background noise based on the last 5 seconds of your recording.

3) After a while you'll be able to tell how your volume is doing from the recording meter. This is how people got uniform volumes for the first 100 years of recording, going back to the early telephone company. (Hint: you don't want the level to go all the way up to zero. You don't even want to to go to -3 except very, very rarely.)

You reduced the level way too much on this one. The first time you sent chapter 2 it was at 93.3 - this one is at 81.1. See my previous post for checking your levels.

We'll get there!

Wow, have I learned a lot in the past few days!!! Thank you so much for your patience and advice. I was able to finally figure out the volume situation and since I was not really sure where we were at with these, I uploaded them again and they are here. These are sections 2 and 3 section 4 will be uploaded tomorrow.

We had a recreational fire this evening, so I'm ready to yawn and fall asleep. I did check the audio levels and sections 2 & 3 are just right. I'll spot check them again tomorrow, but I expect they'll be fine.

Section 4 is out of the volume range (at 94.4 dB, well beyond the 86-92dB limits).

I caught a tiny flaw at 17:40 you say “a weary - a weary footsore flock” - now that you’re a pro at this you should have no trouble removing one “a weary” and re-uploading. Everything else is fine.
