Sections 9 and 10 are PL OKAY :!:

I think Miss Hest is the Spider. Not sure about Diabella, but if Hest is not Diabella they are very close and personal. Motivation is money I'm certain. Everyone wants it, and when they have it they are greedy for more. Women who lived back then sure had to pick the right man if they wanted to be happy and secure.

In his usual adept and perceptive manner, Vernon is body slammed by the Indian version of The Rock. I suspected Maunders liked to go in drag. I don't think he is interested in either of the girls except for their money. But we're only about half-way through, so there has to be more to all this. Let's say Maunders is Diabella, but not the Spider. That leaves the Hest twins. Hmmm.

Sorry for the delay. I had the baaad flu. Sicker'n I've ever been.

Section 11 is PL OKAY

Sorry to hear that you had the flu. I've been lucky enough to stay away from it so far. I get out about three times a month, so I have less chance of people giving me germs.
Will listen to the rest asap.

So that's how the slick and sneaky Maunders makes his money and now I see how he knows what everyone is about.

Too funny how some things never change. Yes of course you can marry her, if you're able to get me out of the mess I made by my own gambling habits. Seems like rich people who get themselves into trouble always expect others to bail them out.

I knew it couldn't be Maunders, as he was the most obvious villain from the first. But I also don't think we know enough about Mr. Hest to pin it on him. So I don't think it's him. Red herring and all that. My money is with yours on Ms. Hest. If we were really going to do a Perry Mason, it would be Ida, but she seems to be what some at that time considered the ideal woman, so they probably weren't ready to go that direction for a villainess. And Ms. Hest is the brunette, who was always suspect in those days. The smart brunette was too much like a man, and that wasn't good. Not much has changed. If a woman is strong and demanding she is being a "rhymes with witch," but if a man is the same way, he is simply being competitive.

Things I learned:
Asmodeus is the chief of the demons.
Korah was the grandson of Levi and along with Dathan and the crew led a revolt against Moses in the wilderness. They were rewarded by having the earth swallow them and their families. Kind of harsh, don't you think?

And circumbendabus is a fake word that combines "circum," "bend," and the latinish ending "abus." It simply means circumlocution, like going around the bend a little bit when you are explaining. I recall hearing it as "circumambulation of the vegetation" or beating around the bush.

And you can't solve the mystery five chapters before the ending.

Section 14 has a small stumble saying the chapter. Re-run to earth. Small but we might as well make it perfect.

Section 15 is PL OKAY.

Lol yeah, I'm one of those broom riders too. Brown hair, green eyes and pretty much always taken care of myself. Circumambulation of vegetation :!: Love that one.

No problem. We were gone to Seattle for a couple of weeks, and now I am playing catch-up around the house, etc. I'll do that correction soon.

Section 14 PL OKAY
Section 16 and 17 are PL OKAY.

The men seem to believe that they have it all figured out. I'm not at all sure that they have it right. There's still a lot of book left so we will see. :hmm:

Thanks for the understanding. All went quickly and quietly at the end. Had a couple of good nights sleep and migraines are under control again.

Et Finis!

I did a slight revision to a paragraph in the last chapter that had clarity issues.

Boy, did I call this one right, or what? This one suffers from a little racism, a lot of sexism, and underlying everything, a lot of classism. The references to the two men in their "kingdoms" at last, benevolent though they considered themselves, and the colonel's assurance to his love that the innocent would be saved and the evil punished, just before the flood killed a lot of innocent villagers, reflect the prevailing mindset in England at the time. But I did appreciate that Ida demonstrated that she wasn't a total dingbat and had some pluck. How's this for no spoilers. You'll just have to listen.

Sorry, but our policy is read/record as written. No changes, omissions or additions to the text. The only exception might be if you are referring to an obvious OCR error.

K. I'll redo as is and let you decide. I think it was a proofing error.

Reread the opening sentence to the paragraph at 12:44 of chapter 22 and re-uploaded. The only problem is that now Colonel Towton confesses to be complicit in the plot by taking Maunders to Bowderstyke and locking him up, which is something the villains did. Your call, though.

Here's a link to a scan of the text if you want to confirm what was in the original text.
