The Legends of King Arthur and His Knights by James Knowles (1831 - 1908).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-legends-of-king-arthur-and-his-knights-by-sir-thomas-malory/
The Publishers have asked me to authorise a new edition, in my own name, of this little book—now long out of print—which was written by me thirty-five years ago under the initials J.T.K.

In acceding to their request I wish to say that the book as now published is merely a word-for-word reprint of my early effort to help to popularise the Arthur legends.

It is little else than an abridgment of Sir Thomas Malory’s version of them as printed by Caxton—with a few additions from Geoffrey of Monmouth and other sources—and an endeavour to arrange the many tales into a more or less consecutive story.
( James Knowles)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/12753
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Thomas,

I can MC this for you.

MW is set up and started.

I have made a few changes to the first post. You can edit the first post - there is an "edit" button at the top right of the post when you are logged in. The Magic Window (MW) is up and started.

1) added a ~ to the forum title to indicate this project does not have a DPL

2) shortened the file name

3) removed the sections on ID tags - our software will add these during the catalog process

4) removed the generic workflow login image and replaced it with a note to use your BC login

5) added dlolso21 as the destination uploader folder

As a soloist you are your own BC. Here is some information on how to access and manage the MW. There is a lot of information here, you might want to set up a bookmark in your browser.

Jo's simplified first-time login instructions (with pictures):
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BxWB83bbALTQYjlENGZ0SVJUWWs

Workflow instructions for BC's and DPL's:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kVj409nG_E0XJ5UrrcL7EVx7Qyx-2UQ7dbw4mINi3XQ
Now in the wiki: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/BC%27s:_How_to_update_the_Magic_Window

Once you set up a password in the Workflow, remember that it is stored separately from your forum password and that changing one will not change the other. Also, please use this combination of login and password for the uploader as the generic one normally pictured in group projects has only permissions in the workflow to upload files, nothing else.

Please let me know if you have any questions or problems.

OK David, thanks. Sorry it took so long to get back to you, but a family crisis popped up yesterday and I've been busy dealing with it.

I'll review the info you sent links for soon. (I'll have to as this is my first solo)

One thing that comes to mind right off is, I noticed the MW is set up for 14 sections. There are 14 chapters but if I'm to do the forward as a separate section, I'll need one more section.

As a BC, once you get that set up, you can add a section in the MW when you need to.

OK David, I finally got this started. Here's the preface.

https://librivox.org/uploads/dlolso21/legendsofkingarthur_00_knowles_128kb.mp3
Time duration: 4:04.

I was wondering if I should fill in the Title spots in the MW. They would necessarily have to be truncated as many of the chapter titles are quite long.

Tom,

Yes, as the BC, you should fill in the Title and other columns in the MW. After you upload a file, please add that specific information to the MW as well - I have add in section 0.

Hi Helen!

I can't speak for David, but I say "Yes, please!."

I'm not entirely sure, but I believe you have already PL'ed some of my early short work. (It's all early at this point)

Please don't hesitate to hold me to a high standard. I am acutely aware that I am putting myself "out there" with these recordings and wish to make a good impression.

Tom, keep up this quality of recording and you quickly became prominent in LV history.
I can not possibly elevate you any higher, you're there.

Here's Chapter 2

https://librivox.org/uploads/dlolso21/legendsofkingarthur_02_knowles_128kb.mp3

Time duration: 33:11

I'm not entirely satisfied with this edit, but, I'm afraid if I monkey with it any more, I'll bollox it all up and have to redo it.

I've decided to redo chapter 3. I mispronounced too many names. In the meantime, here's chapter 4.
