The Tree of Heaven by May Sinclair (1863 - 1946).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-tree-of-heaven-by-may-sinclair/
One of the most heart-breaking of all World War I novels, this family epic was written in the midst of the War itself, and shows the intense emotion generated in ordinary lives by that tragedy. May Sinclair astonishingly weaves multiple themes into her narrative, seamlessly drawing from the great movements of her day: suffrage, sexual liberation, artistic revolt, war, and pacifism. Her most powerful metaphor throughout the novel is that of the Vortex: the dangerously irresistible force of human masses, how to resist it and (much more difficult) how to participate in it without losing one’s individual autonomy. IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

With my new Admin powers (still can't fly though) I can be both the MC and the DPL on this book!

edit: I think the MW is all setup now. Let me know if you notice anything that needs fixing. I'll move the book to "going solo" after you've checked everything (and after a few days to let others see that you've chosen it).

I just added you as Reader on all sections. It makes it clearer to the newbies that this is a solo.

It's been awhile since your last post so I thought I'd leave one to see if everything is okay.

I'll be traveling abroad during much of January so several days may pass before I can PL a file.

Sorry, Dave...

Still here. It's taken me a while to get back on track with reading since my return from Japan; lots of new work, research, etc.. So all of my reading has been diminished, not just LibriVox projects. Being without reading is like being without oxygen, so I need to carve out space for it.

I will try to make a new beginning this weekend.

Wayne...

Don't feel pressured (unless that's what you want). I feel very fortunate that I now have time to enjoy the pleasures of a good book.
