Sometimes it works better than others. There's a lot to it,but something I've learned over my time with LV. Lots of chances to practice, too.

Welcome to LibriVox seemamalhotra :D

The reading itself is good, with a few mic bumps audible (do you use a headset mic?) it is sometimes difficult to avoid the occasional bump, but the reading sounds much better if you do. 8-) There were also a few long periods of silence which can be distracting to listeners. (These can be cut out when you edit the file.

There are some technical items in your file that need addressing...
- the file is in stereo, we need files in mono format
- volume is very low at 73.2 dB (you can increase the recording level in your software or (if possible) the system recording volume)
*You should aim for your wave forms to peak near the 0.5 mark, like this:
Image

- there is a background noise level of 50.7 dB, which will increase with amplifying
- at the end of the recording there is 29 seconds of silence with loud mic bumps during the last 19 seconds. These can be cut out to leave only the 5 seconds of required ending silence.
- the file name needs to be the same format as in the opening post for cataloging - shakedown_lawson_your initials in lowercase_128kb.mp3

What operating system and program are you using to record? If you need the online conversion you must rename the mp3 file to match our requirements.

A lot of readers use Audacity, a free program that most here at LibriVox are familiar with.

Please review the above comments and experiment with your settings and upload again here using the same (correct) filename.

Thank you Chris, one item you may wish to correct,
@ 1:05 you read "With her sweet small speckled features," text reads "With her sweet small freckled features, " :)

Hmm, I did say that, didn't I? Well, it means the same thing, so if you're prepared to let it go through to the keeper (ie, catcher :D ), I think I'd rather leave it be than attempt a patch.

Cheers,
Chris

And, David, I listened to yours. The only item I could remotely complain about is in the fifth verse it sounded like you said "While the old folks winked to see" instead of folk in the singular. Aside from that, everything sounded good.
