The Young Pretenders by Edith Henrietta Fowler (1865 - 1944).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-young-pretenders-by-edith-henrietta-fowler/
Delightful and touching this wonderful little story should appeal to both the young and young at heart. Having lived happily with their grandmother in a large country home all of their young lives Babs 5, and Teddy 7, suddenly find themselves uprooted to become the temporary charges of an uncle and rather selfish 'society' aunt as they await the return of their parents from INJA. Babs is fearless and her pranks, her embarrassing frankness and many complaints about what she claims are unnecessary rebukes from the adults in her life will make you smile and sometimes break your heart. Enjoy!

  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hay!
I am so glad to see this amazing book. And with you all... I am so glad. However, I don't think this summary is in the public domain. I think you would need to change it before cataloguing. Have fun,
Stav.

This is another of your wonderful book suggestions Stav. :) Thank you!!!

I still have lots to learn about Public Domain. I thought if I gave credit to the person who wrote the preface it was OK but I guess not. The fact that it is in the preface is the problem I suspect.
I got here. http://www.persephonebooks.co.uk/the-young-pretenders.html

I can delete it for now and add something later. Can I use summaries from Good Reads or Google books if I mention them?

Thank you for your input once again Stav!!!!

Sorry, no. You have to either write them yourself or use Wikipedia or from somewhere which explisidly states it is in the public domain. Thanks a lot for recording this. I hope you would have a lot of fun.

Actually, Wikipedia isn't public domain, either, so it's not 100% kosher to use Wikipedia, either.

You could:
1. Write your own intro
2. Have someone else write it for you (could be a reader, the DPL, or someone not on LV even, with the understanding that it'll be PD)
3. I suppose you could personally ask someone who wrote on GoodReads, etc., if you could use their summary, with the understanding that it'll be PD (can be taken and used anywhere for any purpose)

Sorry - I didn't notice the summary earlier. Well, I did - I just don't know MamaGeek's name, so I thought it was you. ;)

We can keep the summary/intro in the first post for now, if you like. We'll just have to have it changed by cataloging time.

Thank you both.😀

No problem. I'll write a summary when I've completed several chapters. Please feel free to remind me when I get near the end anyone.😀😀😀

Helen,

While I think of it if you ever see long pauses in my recordings it means you don't have my final edited version. It's happened a few times and fortunately Devorah caught it. I usually upload from different comps and sometimes my drives haven't yet synced up. I'm obviously checking that now but if it happens let me know I'll re-upload the file please.

Will upload a few files Sunday. :) Have a great weekend!

SURPRISE!!! :):)

I started recording and here are the first 4 chapters. It's an adorable book and an easy read so it won't take long to do.

Hope you enjoy it Helen. Have a great weekend!!! :)
