Here are two - my other two in a few hours! I had a learning curve with Audacity - hope these are acceptable and definitely would welcome feedback. Especially in section 5, around 4:28:20 I had to use a chunk from an earlier take, and the edit is obvious.

Ah, so much better.
I still hear the two places with a dog barking, however.
And that sound just as you finish is still there and the ending silence is still less than 4 seconds and it should be 5.

Nicely read!
Just a couple of very small things, but easily corrected.

First the volume is just slightly higher than our acceptable range of 86-92 dB, measuring 92.5 Simple to use the Amplify feature to bring it down about 3 dB to get it closer to the target of 89 dB.

While your at it, there is a noticeable click in the closing silence, which is several seconds too long anyway. It should be closer to five, so if you trim that, the click will be gone. In the "wouldn't mention it otherwise" category, the opening silence is a smidge long than one second, and we just like to keep it somewhere under one. Quick snip is all it needs while you're at it.

Still, a very nice recording, and I mention these just to help improve what you are basically doing well.

So skillfully and beautifully read! I knew I was in for a treat.

Just one small technical note: These are all higher in volume than we would like. Our target is 89 dB with an acceptable range of 86-92 dB

Section 3 at 91.7 dB is at the high end of that range, but still acceptable.
Section 14 at 95.1 dB, and Section 5 at 94.8 dB however, are too far out of range.

You can use the amplify feature in Audacity to bring these down just by using, say, a -5 in the setting.
Just upload them again under the same file name, and post a note here. (If you want to adjust Section 3 while you're at it, that is fine, but not absolutely necessary).

The only other thing I would mention, just because I thought you might like to know, is that your sibilants are very “essy.” It is a pesky problem sometimes in audio recording. I think you will hear what I mean as you listen to it. It is not overly distracting and certainly not a problem for a LibriVox recording.

These are truly superior recordings

I love your bird sounds, by the way.

Ugh, I kind of want to redo all of them now because I can see so much low-level noise and things that I could do to make them better. I would actually be thrilled to re-record them on Monday 2/26 and edit Tuesday if you give me the green light, but I know you want to wrap up this project. (That sounds like a lot of work, but I'm using this as a learning experience and have already learned so much, and I'm having fun, esp with the bird sounds!)

I'll work on my sibilants, but it might be a matter of getting a better recording setup/mic - I've tried tricks like speaking at an angle, and they're still popping...

Hi Rachel,

It's highly unlikely that this will be ready to catalog before Tuesday. However, if you re-record, our DPL would have to PL the files all over again. If Larry is OK with that, then go ahead. My recommendation would be to let these stand if they are OK after the spot check, and go ahead with something new.

I agree with Jo on this. Your recordings are superb and with the volume correction, there is no need at all to do them over again -- not that I would mind listening again, but these are more than fine. The sibilant issue is a very minor thing and ordinarily one I wouldn't even mention, but knowing you are a professional, I thought you might like the feed back.

This is fine -- except you added the poem at the end which actually stands alone as Section 21. Just clip this out (but not the outro) and you'll be fine.
