Radioisotopes in Medicine by Earl Phelan (1900 - ).

This project is complete! All audio files are available on our catalog page:
https://librivox.org/radioisotopes-in-medicine-by-earl-w-phelan/

Radioisotopes in Medicine is an educational booklet published in 1966 as part of the Understanding the Atom series by the United States Atomic Energy Commission. Written in language accessible to students and the general public, the booklet discusses the diagnostic and therapeutic uses of radioactive isotopes like technetium 99m and iodine 131. (LA Walden)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/49377
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

  • The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
    START of recording (Intro):

"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Say:
"Radioisotopes in Medicine, by Phelan. [Chapter]"

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Chapter [number] of Radioisotopes in Medicine by Earl W. Phelan. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Only if applicable, say:
      "[Chapter title]"
    END of recording:
    • At the end of the section, say:
      "End of [Chapter]"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of Radioisotopes in Medicine, by Earl W. Phelan. "

There should be ~5 seconds of silence at the end of the recording.
  • Example filename radioisotopesmedicine_##_phelan_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. radioisotopesmedicine_01_phelan_128kb.mp3)

    Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
    • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader: https://librivox.org/login/uploader Image
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
    • You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: chocoholic

If you need a DPL for this little booklet, I'd be glad to do it.

Thanks, Larry! The first 2 sections are ready. I added a little bit to the first section this morning (warning you in case you downloaded it last night).

Ha, Availle, I thought this one might catch your eye (being science-y and all). Only a handful of people have downloaded the book from Gutenberg, so the 3 of us might be the only ones remotely interested.

Hey, no problem, Ava. I haven't started this, so I'd be glad to relinquish it. Not like I don't have other projects on my plate.

Thanks for the offer Larry, I appreciate it!
But, let's stick to the rules: First claim, first PL. I have all intentions to beat you to the next one though. :P

I'll listen to it in a week or two, when it's finished (it's a cutsie.)
Cheers, Ava.

Just an update since it's been a little over a month -- still alive and well. :) I've hit a busy time with work, so basically there's always something I should be doing instead of editing the next section. I'll post it eventually. (It's the longest one.) Back before the next month is out, I imagine!

I've uploaded the last 2 sections. I included a figure caption in section 4; see if you think it sounds weird to include just that one. That particular caption seemed to make sense without looking at the picture, but let me know if it seems odd to have it there.

No, I think this all sounds fine!
So, I think this one is PL OK and ready for the catalog!

Thanks for letting me ride along with this one.
I enjoyed hearing you read. :)
