In "real life" individuals pronounce the same name differently. (My last name--Gould--is sometimes pronounced like a certain precious metal; but my family--for generations--has pronounced it GOOld.) My recommendation is that you use the one that you are most comfortable with. I appreciate the care and concern you show for the project, but there are as many answers to that question as there are stars in the sky (and as many justifications for the answers).

Many thanks,

Philip
Ha! Good answer. I have the same problem with my first name, Teresa. Every country I live in has a different way of saying it, and I just go with it... :)
My natural inclination for Hippolyta would be the Greek, but since Eva actually introduces her -- I think I'll just follow her lead. But since Junior never can remember any of Chaucer's characters anyway, it probably would be in her character to get it wrong. One way or the other, I should be able to post it soon. :D

I checked and Patty registered on February 1. So I opened her Reader Page just now and assigned her the role :)

Patty, here is your Reader Page: https://librivox.org/reader/12247
You can see the projects you are participating in on this page, and if you click "Reader Section Details", you can see all your outstanding claims.

JayS wrote: February 3rd, 2018, 5:37 pm Hi Michele,
Sorry for missing that line. Thanks for catching that.
Here it is again with the line added. Ready again for PL.

Another issue: In previous plays I have edited, when there is a stage direction associated with the character such as -- HAROLD: (softly )blah, blah, blah -- it was read by the narrator as "Harold, softly" including the character name. In this play the narrator did not include the name. How do you want that edited? I have been going back to where the name had been spoken and adding it to the stage direction, but in some cases it does not sound completely contiguous. Any ideas?

I am not sure why this has been marked PL OK as I posted PL Notes on 15th January. I have now PM'd the reader to see if they are able to carry out the edits. I don't think it would sound right with the name edited in from the reader of the character. sorry this will delay the process but I would prefer to get it right. thanks

Hi Michele or Phillip.
Belles of Canterbury is edited. I hope it is okay; if not please let me know the changes to be made and I will make them. That will preserve quality better than someone else doing it from the mp3 file.

Jay:

Overall, an outstanding job of editing the Belles. I have the following observations:

In the voice credits...

The Canterbury Characters names are read both by the narrator and the readers. The schoolmates all just read their own characters (without the narrator). I think it would be ok to delete the narrator's reading of the names..

The Canterbury Characters are not presented in the order in which they are in the script (although the schoolmates are).

Script

Wife of Bath, Prioress, First Nun, Second Nun, Emily, Hippolyta, Griselda, Narrator

Reading

First, Nun, Hippolyta, Prioress, Second Nun, Wife of Bath, Emily, Griselda, Narrator

I would also insert the phrase "From the prologue" ahead of Wife of Bath; "From the Knight's Tale" ahead of Emily, and "From the Clerk's tale" ahead of Griselda.

There are only three other changes that I would suggest (and they involve deletion of stage directions).

AT 4:21 "any other festival can be substituted here"
AT 17:19 "The following passage can be omitted"
At 17:43 "substitute any popular song"

The reason for the deletion of these three is that--to my ears, it brings reality crashing into the scenes which are meant to "bend reality."

That's all. A really fine job of editing.

Many thanks,

Philip

Hi Phillip,
These are easily done. I will make the changes on the master and render a new mp3. I expect to get to it tomorrow. Thanks for your prompt PL.

Hi Phillip,
The changes you suggested are made and uploaded, ready for PL.
Again, any further changes should be made by me to preserve as much audio quality as we can.
I have to admit I was tempted to add accompaniment on piano to the song, but refrained. :D

length of edited is not 27:50 due to changes.
