A Far Country by Winston Churchill (1871 - 1947).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page here:

https://librivox.org/a-far-country-by-winston-churchill/

The book follows the career of Hugh Paret from youth to manhood, and how his profession as a corporation lawyer gradually changes his values. The book received positive reviews, and was the second best-selling novel in the United States in 1915. ( Wikipedia)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/3739
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Genres for the project: General Fiction/Published 1900 onward

    Keywords that describe the book:

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:

"End of A Far Country, by Winston Churchill. "

There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.

I love to read, AND my employer matches my volunteer hours with a donation to the Internet Archive, flagged to benefit Librivox.org. How cool is that?

Keywords to be added before cataloguing.
There are 26 chapters, but chapters 21 and 25 will be split into 2 sections each.

Chapter 3 is ready for PL:
https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/farcountry_03_churchill_128kb.mp3
Time is 32:53

I started noticing some clicks and pops. I've tried to clean them up and am checking my equipment, but if it's too distracting, just let me know.

Sections 1 & 3 are PL OK!

Section 2 has one tiny stumble at 14:52 - "by im .. by impersonating."

I didn't notice anything distracting.
