you know, I probably did, but what surprises me more is that you never took issue before, because I believe I never ever do a difference in sound with the words "man" and "men". I was always under the impression there is not really a difference. Not like with "woman" and "women". Also when I hear other people read the word "men" I don't think I notice much of a difference. :hmm:

Be that as it may, I think you probably mean I should draw out the "ehhh" a bit more in the middle (what else could it be ?) so here is the line again. Do you notice a difference ? I hope that is what you had in mind.
This sounds fine. I tend to pronounce the "en" portion as "in". To me it's the same pronunciation as the abbreviated min for minimum or minute.

The second syllable is generally a kin v con.

thank you for the link, indeed I stressed on "con" instead of "cert", that's a new pronunciation I learnt  I try to remember it. However I do not understand what you mean by "is generally a kin v con" :help:
Honestly, I have no idea. It was perfectly clear in my head...at the time. I'm sorry.

Linny, I started on a new short story, in 3 chapters. Chapter 1 is quite short, so here it is, to whet your appetite. A bit of patience for the rest though...those parts are longer.

seriously, you read "men", the same way than "(wo)men" ? I need to pay closer attention when I hear that word next time spoken by others. I never noticed that.

Thanks for the PL ! I'm glad you liked the beginning. :D I notice I'm 50% through the book now. :9:

That's that's how I hear/say it. Crazy language.

I’m looking forward to it. I have classes this weekend so it probably won’t be before Monday.

I hope you recovered from your editing marathon.

It should be an interesting evening.

oh no, that was actually done on purpose. I know how to pronounce begun ;) but here I am saying it in my French persona, and this is the way many French would say the word. Their English 'u' sounds a bit like that.

If there is nothing else, I'll mark it ok. Thanks Linny, as always, for your diligence.

and here the (maybe eagerly awaited) ending of The Assassin. And it's official now: Monsieur Gerbert is one of the most despicable little bastards that ever existed

What the ....?

OK, your words were startling but I have to agree with you. I don't however understand why she did what she did? How did that action earn her 10k?

Oh, and yes, PL OK. (I almost forgot that little tidbit  )

well I understood it that she finally found someone who was willing to pay the 10k if she killed someone: herself. :? I think that is what she wanted all along, if I interpret her words correctly. ("my death will be worth sth even if my life was not") It was a bit of a sick text...

Thanks for the PL :9:

Hi Linny, you probably already wondered what's up with me. Well, LV kept me quite busy so I had to to push my Solo on the backburner. But I managed to finish one new chapter finally. Here is the first part of an intriguing story about diamonds. It's hilarious how often and how quickly this flawed diamond changes hands in the first chapter  Everybody tries to out-con the other.

Hope all is well with you. Happy Easter !

the second part of the story was quite short, so here as special treat you get two sections in one day. :) But the last part with the solution of the diamond mystery will have to wait for a bit longer (sorry). It's a bigger chapter again.

As for the ominous Mr Fungst, I pictured him as the sort of typical German diamond trader living in Paris, so I gave it my best to give him a thick Germanic accent (wasn't easy after I spent my whole life getting rid of such an accent  ) He sounds quite funny.
