Life in the Sick-room: Essays by an Invalid by Harriet Martineau (1802 - 1876).

This project is complete and all audio files can be found in the catalogue: https://librivox.org/life-in-the-sick-room-essays-by-an-invalid-by-harriet-martineau/
Thinking she would be ill for the rest of her life, Harriet Martineau wrote these partly autobiographical essays about life in the sickroom. Considered ground braking, it asserted that the sickroom is the sick person's place and not the doctor's. Sick people were able and willing to decide what is best for them. In England and abroad, people declared that "a sick person cannot write a helpful book " and that Harriet Martineau was definitely out of her senses. It would be interesting to see how much has changed. ( Stav Nisser and wikipedia.)
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
  4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/lifeinsickroome01martgoog
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hello, Miss Stav! Happy New Year!

Let me MC this project! I'll prepare the Magic Window. So we don't need a section for the dedication, we'll just have the 10 essays, is that correct?

By the way, the forum has a new design now. Is it as accessible for you to navigate as before? or perhaps easier? or more difficult?

I skimmed a bit of this yesterday. I'd like to pick up one or two sections, but I'll wait for you to get everything filled in.

Hello reedyrow,
welcome to Librivox. I hope you will enjoy here. Sections 1 and 2 are all yours. However, before you proceed, please do the following
1. Submit a one-minute sample recording to make sure your technical settings are alright.
2. Please let us know under which name you would like to be credited in the catalogue: your real name, your forum name, or something else that you choose.
Have fun,
Stav.

Hello Aditi! Welcome to the project!
Sorry for not responding sooner; I was away. But I have now added you as DPL of the project!

Since this is your first time using the Magic Window as a DPL, you'll need to create an account for the workflow (this is different than the account for the forum; you have the same username, but you can have different password) Here is the information on how to do First Time Log In: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=BC%27s:_How_to_update_the_Magic_Window#Accessing_the_System_.E2.80.93_First_Time_Login

Please ask if something is unclear!
