Birds and Nature, Vol. X, No 3, Oct 1901 .

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page here:

https://librivox.org/birds-and-nature-vol-x-no-3-october-1901-by-various/

"Birds and Nature" was a monthly publication of the Nature Study Publishing Company of Chicago. It includes short poems, anecdotes and factual descriptions of birds, animals and other natural subjects with accompanying color plates. The magazine was published from 1897-1907 under the various titles, "Birds," "Birds and all Nature," "Nature and Art" and "Birds and Nature." - Summary by J. M. Smallheer
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? For this project, we ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1 month of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after one month, your sections may be automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know, and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the one month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/49982
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.
Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.

Please remember to check this thread frequently for updates!

    AFTER recording
    Need noise-cleaning?
Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some constant background noise (hiss/buzz), you may want to clean it up a bit. The latest versions of Audacity are recommended for noise-cleaning. See this LibriVox wiki page for a complete guide.
    Save files as
    128 kbps MP3
    birdsandnatureoct1901_##_various_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. birdsandnatureoct1901_01_various_128kb.mp3)

(NOTE: Do not add ID3 tags. These will be added automatically during cataloging)

Transfer of files (completed recordings) Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
    • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader: https://librivox.org/login/uploader
      Image
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
    • You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: knotyouraveragejo
    • When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.
    • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

Oh, another one - great!

Could I have the polar bear please - the penultimate section?
I just hope they don't talk about shooting them again...

Also, the link to the text seems off - leads to the No 2. You wanted to give http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/49982 as the link, I am sure.

OK it's late here, but I think I've got everything.

Polar bears for Ava.
1 & 25 for tovarisch in the MW ready for PL.
2,4,6 & 19 and DPL for Larry.

The text link updated. I would have sworn I did that before I posted, but obviously not. :?

Thanks to all of you!

Hi! I’m new to LV, but I passed my 1-minute audio test and am eager to start recording some short passages. These are perfect for me, as I’m a birdwatcher and am familiar with the birdsongs notated here. I would like to take 3 (yellow-bellied flycatcher), 5 (ruby-crowned kinglet), 7 (olive-sided flycatcher), and 14 (black-throated green warbler). Please feel free to give feedback about my recordings! I would like to appear in the catalog as Rachel Evangeline Barham, and my website is www.RachelBarham.com – thanks!

Hi Rachel. Welcome to LibriVox and Birds and Nature. :) I've signed you up for sections 3,5,7 & 14.

Before you start on these sections, please read carefully through all the notes in the first post of this thread if you haven't already done so.

Your catalog page is here

https://librivox.org/reader/12216

If you click on the link for Reader Sections under your username, it will take you to a page that shows all the sections you have signed up to read as well as the ones you have completed that are waiting for PL or completed in projects that have not been cataloged yet.
