Okay, well, we have several issues here.

If you read any of the introductory material for new readers, you would see that we request that each person first complete a 1-minute test before doing an actual recording for a project. This is primarily a check to make sure you have all of the technical specifications set right, which you do not.

Second, you should always wait until you have official approval from the BC (book coordinator) before recording and uploading any files. Most of us check our projects once or twice per day, so assignments are usually made on a timely basis.

I did just take a quick look and listen to your recordings, however, and here are the things that need attention:

1) The bit rate is wrong. It must be a constant rate of 128kb, yours is at a variable rate.
2) Our target volume for all recordings is 89dB with a range of 86-92 dB. Your section 3 averages okay, but the first 90 seconds are much too high in volume with a lot of spikes. Section 4 is much too low at only 81.1 dB.
3) Although I didn't listen to the entire sections, I did notice multiple places where there are loud bumps and clicks, probably what we commonly call "mike bumps." I think you will hear these, too, if you listen to your recording. These are not acceptable.

So, here is what you need to do. Please read all of the material we have for new readers, and post your one-minute test recording and have it approved.

Then, post your request here again and wait until you are assigned. When you make your request, tell me how you would like to be listed in the LV catalog. Many of us use our actual real names, but you may use a pseudonym or nick name if you wish.

When you have been assigned your sections, you may record and upload, then post a note here with the link. Be sure to post the file length along with the length, as given in the instructions. Of course, check your recording for volume and extraneous noises. There are a lot of good guides to all aspects of recording in our wikis, and some excellent videos as well Then, if you need help on anything, just ask. We all started at the beginning and know that there is a lot to learn. But, it will soon become routine and you can concentrate on reading.

So, let me say that I really love your reading style for these two pieces -- just perfect for the story.

I did battle with a sinus infection that had me in the G0-a4 vocal range of JD Sumner. My wife said only elephants and seismographs could hear that frequency.

I am back up to my normal audible range again and will carve out some time, soon, to get back in front of the mic.

No need for accents. Not all cowboys were from the South. I grew up in cowboy country in Oregon, and we don't sound like those cowboys from Texas and Oklahoma.

Since you asked about accepted LibriVox procedure -- Yes, you should wait until you have officially been assigned a requested section before submitting it. There are a lot of good reasons for this. And, since this would be your first LV recording, there are a few thing you need to do.

First, read the Newbie Guide to Recording. This is referenced in the initial post of this and every project thread, but here it is:

Follow the instructions there for competing your Preliminary Test. This 1-minute recording is designed to check your recording specifications so that when you start submitting files to projects they will be in order.

Once you have that test approved, post your claim here again. Also, let me know how you would like to be listed in the LibriVox catalog. Many of us use our real actual names, but you may choose to use a pseudonym or nickname if you prefer.

In the meantime, I'll save this section for you.

I did take a look an listen to your recording, and there is one serious issue (that would have been identified in your 1-min test). The volume is drastically low at only 76.2 dB. The LV target is 89dB with a range of 86-92dB. This is probably too big of a gap to correct even with amplification. You need to play with your recording set-up -- distance from the mike and your input gain, to get results that are in range, or close enough that amplification up or down will get them there. The recording is clean except for a buzz in the first second, which also appears about 3:24. You can use Checker, a little program designed specifically for LV, to check volume and other technical parameters.

So, those are just some tips so that your 1-minute test should go better.
