Life and Lillian Gish by Albert Bigelow Paine (1861 - 1937).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/life-and-lillian-gish-by-albert-bigelow-paine/
An authorized biography of Lillian Gish, the renowned silent film star known in her heyday as the First Lady of American Cinema. Albert Bigelow Paine chronicles Gish's early life, her close relationship with her sister Dorothy, her rise in film as an actor with Biograph Studios and muse of D. W. Griffith, her short time as a contract actor with MGM, and her return to the stage in the advent of the talkies. Peppered throughout with intimate and amusing anecdotes, this is a must-read for film historians, silent film enthusiasts, and admirers of one of cinema's legendary talents. ( Tomas Peter)
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
  4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/55169
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: special --- in addition to standard checks, the DPL must ensure files comply with LibriVox's technical specifications, including the required volume limit (87-91 dB).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Awesome! I'll sign you up once the MW is ready, Linda. Thanks! :)

I also spotted a teensy error in the summary. If the future MC could use this one, that'd be great.

Oh, and in case there are questions about copyright status:

WiltedScribe wrote: January 11th, 2018, 12:16 pm I could take this on as BC of a group project, provided the 1932 publication year isn't an issue (I'd assume not, since Gutenberg says this is PD in the US).
If it helps, I personally submitted this book to PG a long time ago to determine its copyright status and was told it's in the public domain.

Awesome! I'm glad to see we're finally doing this one. :-) There are some other early celebrity biographies I'd love to see recorded for Librivox, but this is the big one.

I would like to read a couple of chapters from one of my favorite parts of Gish's career: the early Biograph years. Could I take Sections 21 and 22?
PROJECTS
Current Solo:Septimius Felton (Hawthorne's final novel)
Help Needed: Strange Interlude (O'Neill's Freudian melodrama - roles available!)

I'm glad you brought it to my attention. I don't come across celebrity biographies around here much, so I'd be interested in BCing more in the future if this one is popular.

Aaaaand you've also been assigned those sections.

After a bit of consultation, I'm going to change the PL standard to special, as I would like all files checked for proper technical specifications and volume before they are marked PL OK. I'm going to be coordinating a few new projects in the coming weeks, so I won't have the time to double-check the files here myself.

I've updated the first post with this information.
