The Pink Shop by Fergus Hume (1859 - 1932).

The Pink Shop operates outside the limits of the law by a mysterious woman concealed under a black veil. Follow the twists and turns as you unravel the secrets hidden behind the closed doors of The PINK SHOP.
Ask yourself: what would you give to retain eternal beauty?
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/etext/56237
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    Magic Window:

Genres for the project: Crime & Mystery Fiction/Detective Fiction; General Fiction/Published 1900 onward

"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Say:
"The Pink Shop , by Fergus Hume . [Chapter]"

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Chapter [number] of The Pink Shop by Fergus Hume . This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Only if applicable, say:
      "[Chapter title]"
    END of recording:
    • At the end of the section, say:
      "End of [Chapter]"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of The Pink Shop , by Fergus Hume . "

There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.
  • Example filename pinkshop_##_hume_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. pinkshop_01_hume_128kb.mp3)

(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)

    • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

Ok you have a MW.
Yes it's OK to add the summary when you have read it.
There's not much that is different , the file name has changed a little due to Archive changes
And access to the MW has changed a bit, so you need to do a bit first time in
The title in the MW has changed slightly - no leading number
And there is a status field for PLing
these are links about the MW changes
Now that you are a soloist, you will be your own BC (book coordinator). That means that you will enter the links to your recordings into the Magic Window (MW) (the scrolling window in the first post). Here is a document that explains how to get into the MW the first time:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BxWB83bbALTQYjlENGZ0SVJUWWs

And here is another document that explains how to keep the MW up to date etc:

Cooee if you need help (well he is an Australian author in theory :D

Hi Anne!

So sorry T_T but I'm not getting along very well with MW! >.< I followed the steps into setting up the password for MW. However, when I sign in directly to the MW by clicking on the BC admin link below it I get a "you're not authorized to access this" page. However, I log into the Librivox Management Dashboard without a problem. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi Kehinde, it is my pleasure to be working with you on this project. :D

PL note:

sect 1 In the Morning

Your voice is beautiful and you read great, the section is perfect, but you have some background noise. Would you try noise reduction? And then we can see what happens.

Thanks Helen
jus a reminder to Kehinde - you need to fix the tech bits for the file to be catalogued
The current file is in stereo , it needs to be mono
the bit rate needs to be 128kbps
and the bitrate needs to be constant needs to be constant - if you just fix you settings that should be OK in future

Kehinde needs to fix the technical bits before she reads any more - they are unusable at the moment and the changes will probably affect the quality of the file , so lets get the first file right before continuing .
