Seriously: this are the letters of the second book (the second part of the novel). From now on there is a narrator who picks up the story. I hope I will have time to finish these last 40 pages soon.

Rainer - I listened all the way through now. Was going to do it in batches but was so captivated by it that I couldn't stop! It's a wonderfully emotional reading. I was very moved, and suffered all the way! Thanks for that.

I didn't look at the text as I usually do with proof-listening. Was very happy to spot one little mistake: in the Juli 1771 file, at about 10:59 you say "Dass ich drunter... dass ich drueber zugrunde..." I think the first bit is superfluous. However, 'tis a trivial thing and I don't know if you even want to bother with it... let me know. I'm uploading the other 8 files to the Validator now, and we should have it up and running by Monday, archive.org willing! :)

Oh, you're right. You get the fixed file tomorrow, Monday latest. I mark mistakes with a blow in the microphone. I used to tap it like Betsie but it wasn't good for the microphone. I don't know why, but sometimes something got stuck in the microphone and there was a huge background noise until I tapped in next time. After I had to re-record a considerable time because of that I stopped it.

And that you didn't follow the text while listening: looking into the Gutenberg text wouldn't be good anyway. There are many mistakes in there. And when I noticed that there was a whole paragraph missing (not due to a different edition - it stopped in the middle of a sentence) I got myself the Reclam book and continued reading from that text.

Thanks for recognizing the emotional reading. I got myself the Darwin text that I don't have to do it so soon again. It was a little bit complicated: I read a letter beforehand, considered in what mood Werther could have been and recorded it. I hope it's not exaggerated, but every review of Werther says that he was very emotional.

Once again, thanks for proof-listening. Now I'm sure that the recording wasn't for nothing and that at least one person listened to it

LOL - I'm sure many more people will listen to this. And no, I don't think your reading is exaggerated at all. Just right, for my taste anyway. We should tell Stephan this is done - at some point he confessed to not having read it. :)

Yeah, I think it's safe to assume that young Werther was on the emotional side... ;) Poor chap. I really felt for him, although of course he ruined his own life by clinging to Lotte like that. I mean, either have a hot affair and then get the hell out of there, or send a hitman for the fiance/husband, or admit defeat and go find another girl somewhere... (though I think he was into black-coloured eyes, which were hard to come by even in his days, I reckon) But all this morose longing and writing about his 'passions' to that guy Wilhelm (and what was going on there, one wonders?).... I don't know... 'tis just not healthy ;)

Best thing was when he shot himself in the head and still survived 12 hours, though - one would have thought that Goethe could have afforded a research assistant to sort out these things for him...

I'll be listening, Rainer -- not necessarily UNDERSTANDING, but listening anyway :)

When I goof I pause, then shout "AGAIN!" then pause, then re-read. The "AGAIN!" makes a very identifiable waveform.

Good heavens, that wouldn't work for me. I never read what I record before I record it (to alleviate boredom - it probably shows, though), so every other sentence there's AGAIN - sometimes several AGAINS in a row... :)

Rainer, I'm downloading the last file now and shall PM you when it's on the catalogue - very nicely in time for our 15th February push! :)
