The travels of Ibn Batūta by Ibn Battuta (1304 - 1368). Translated by Samuel Lee (1783 - 1852)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-travels-of-ibn-batuta/
Ibn Battuta (ابن بطوطة) (February 25, 1304 – 1368 or 1369), was a Moroccan explorer of Berber descent. He is known for his extensive travels, accounts of which were published in the Rihla (lit. "Journey"). Over a period of thirty years, Ibn Battuta visited most of the known Islamic world as well as many non-Muslim lands. His journeys included trips to North Africa, the Horn of Africa, West Africa and Eastern Europe, and to the Middle East, South Asia, Central Asia, Southeast Asia and China. Ibn Battuta is generally considered one of the greatest travellers of all time. -Wikipedia
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/bub_gb_22IbAQAAMAAJ
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I'll MC.

There's a note in the project that says that Pattymarie was the original DPL, and that she might want to continue as DPL. I'd suggest shooting her a PM. :)

The original summary was from Wikipedia, so you might want to change it. I'll put the Wikipedia one in the first post.

Thank you Tricia.
I have pm'd Patty. She is currently traveling, but right now there is no rush.
As I haven't seen the original thread please can you let me know if there in any other information there that I need.
I've put together the magic window. Please can you add a section 0 as I've decided to include the preface.
Please can you delete sections 16-20 as these are no longer needed.
Thank you.

Done. I don't know if you put the intro/preface info in one of the sections (I would assume so). I dragged it up to its proper place.

There wasn't anything unusual/surprising/different in the original thread, so I think you're OK. :)

Thank you. I did put the preface at the bottom (so as not to disorder the sections if an eager beaver signed up!)

How are footnotes being dealt with? I have come across some sentences that have three or four footnotes which breaks up the sentence significantly. Should all notes be saved for the end of the sentence? Omitted entirely? Thanks.

Hi Travis,
Is this the name that you would like to show on your reader page? Do you have a website?
Regarding footnotes, it is up to the reader's discretion whether to include them or not. And yes, you're correct in thinking that they should be inserted at a logical break, rather than where they are noted in the text.
We use the format "Footnote"..... "End of Footnote" when including them.
Hope this helps.
