Phoebe Daring by L. Frank Baum (1856 - 1919).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/phoebe-daring-by-l-frank-baum/

A headstrong female detective strives to clear a good man's name in this children's mystery by Oz author L. Frank Baum. (Summary by Miriam Esther Goldman)
  1. Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/54529
  2. Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Chapter 1 PL notes:
The reading is great! There are a bunch of clicks and rustling noises though, it would be good if you could try not to have so many in the next chapter. It's fine this time, though.
- Repeat @ 11:15 and were willing to extend a hand to him...and were willing to extend a helping hand to him
- In the five seconds of silence at the end you have some loud clicks. Try running some noise removal on those five seconds, or chop out the loudest clicks?

Also, you're going to need to update the MW with your chapters, that's one of your jobs as soloist. Is this your first solo since the new system? If it is, I think MaryAnn will have some instructions for you to read. :) I've done the first chapter so you can see how it should look.

Thank you! :)

This book was started as a solo in 2015 by Miriam Esther Goldman (AmateurOzmologist).

During her time with us, Miriam recorded 100 sections in over 50 different projects. This was one of Miriam's last recordings for LV. Since she was not able to finish this project, we will open it up and finish it as a community (group) project. Thanks for helping out!

I would like to claim section 2 in her memory.

I'll take
IX How Phoebe Played Detective

Note: MaryAnn, I did an edit of Miriam's chapter and uploaded it to your folder with the title appended as such:
https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspi ... b_edit.mp3

I cut out what clicks could be removed, fixed two hard edits that cut off 'ess' sounds (like 'once') via cut-and-paste of her own reading, and added/deleted some pauses for rhythm.

Thank you!

And thanks to both you and Phil for kicking off our claims as well.

I'd be happy to DPL for this - do you want help with setting up the MW a bit more? Obviously a group project involves more setup than a solo, as I think word counts are helpful for those who want to claim chapters. I'm afraid I can't commit to BCing the whole thing though.

I'll read Chapter 4 too, please.

Thanks Beth. I've added you as DPL and put you in for Chapter 4. I don't plan to do word counts, its easy to check in PG if it matters to someone.

Would you mind if I put them in then? I think they are helpful for people looking to record a short/medium chapter to assess how long the recording will take?
