My apologies, I've got myself in a situation where I can't conveniently record for a couple of weeks. I'll need to relinquish my sections.

Welcome to LibriVox! Thanks, I will sign you up to chapter 7. What Cataloge name would you like to have?

Please make sure you complete the "1 Minute Test" for review before you start actively recording any chapters for projects. This is NOT an audition, but a way to check to make sure all your technical settings are correct, your volume loud enough, etc. You will find the information for the 1-Minute Test Recording here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/1-Minute_Test. The instructions also tell you how to upload your test and then post in the Listeners and Editors Wanted forum so someone can give you feedback on it.

At the Newbie Guide to Recording: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Newbie_Guide_to_Recording,you can see how to set up your computer to record.

If you'd like to introduce yourself to the community, you can do se here: http://forum.librivox.org/viewforum.php?f=17

An overview of how Librivox works can be found here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/How_LibriVox_Works

There are numerous ways to volunteer here. An important one is proof-listening, which consists of checking someone's recording for errors. If you'd like to give that a try, you can find lots of information here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Guide_for_Proof-listeners
One of our volunteers has created a number of videos that you might find helpful to learn more about the workings of Librivox. You can find a listing of those here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/User:Philchenevert

Also to point out to professional (or aspiring) Voice Over artists, all our recordings are put back into the public domain which means sometimes they are sold on ebay, etc. Have a look at this page which describes our Public Domain policy: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Copyright_and_Public_Domain

I hope you have fun and please, don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions!

I'm so sorry this took so long. I recorded this well over a month ago, but only now have come around to editing/exporting:

Welcome to Librivox! I would suggest maybe starting with one of the smaller sections, like section 14

Fritz:

A hearty welcome to Librivox! Section 2 is PL-OK! Nicely done. One thing for the future--be sure to post the file length (in minutes and seconds) when you post the link. It is essential for cataloging.

Many thanks,

Philip

Note to Kristin: I will be away from the boards tomorrow Dec. 23.

Jacques:

Allow me to add my Welcome to Librivox to the others you have received! It's good to have you aboard!
There are a couple of technical issues and a couple of small edits to be made before I can mark Section 7 as PL-Ok.

First the technical issues:

(1) The Amplification of the file is too loud. The checker said it was 92.2 dB. The acceptable range here at Librivox is 86-92 dB. I try to aim for the middle of the range (89dB) in my own recordings. You can download the checker at this link: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Checker

I run all the reading I do through it and adjust the amplification using the amplification effect from the effects menu in Audacity. You need to select all the reading in the box. Click in the box and hit ctrl A. Then after it is highlighted, open the effects menu and click on Amplification. A box will appear and ask you for a value. If you were aiming for an amplification level of 89db, the level of this file would need to be reduced by 3.2 dB...so you would input -3.2 dB in the box and then hit ok.

Re-export your reading in mp3 format and re-upload and you're all set. (Hope those instructions were clear. If not, please ask.)

That brings me to technical issue #2

(2) The file name is incorrect. When you re-upload the file, be sure to use the format specified in the first post "wellworldsendbook4_##_morris_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. wellworldsendbook4_07_morris_128kb.mp3) " The 0 in front of the 7 is essential to the correct cataloging of your reading.

Now to the edits--just two small ones:

The first is at 0:34. "Chapter 7" is missing in front of "Of their riding the waste...."
The second is at 6:53 I heard " thou spoke-speakest" I expected to hear "thou speakest"

One final reminder--be sure to post the file length when you upload the file (the running length in minutes and seconds). It is essential for cataloging.

Over all, very nicely read. No major issues to deal with. It was a privilege to hear them.

Many thanks,

Philip
