Hello! :)

I have recorded a fairy-tale by Petre Ispirescu.
Title of work: Tinerețe fără bătrânețe și viață fără de moarte
Date of publication: 1882
URL for online text: https://ro.wikisource.org/wiki/Autor:Petre_Ispirescu#Basme

Duration of recording [m:ss] - 33:15

Is it ok to be silent for 5 seconds at the end of this recording instead of 10 seconds?

Thank you,

Livia

Hello livia!
As the recording is over 30 min, it is better the silence to be longer than 5 secs. Please, provide me with the link to the recording and key words.

Nastya, a while back (a few months ago) we had this official discussion about ending silence, and it was decided that 5 seconds for ALL recordings, regardless of the length, would be enough. Here is the link to the discussion :)

so you are really impatient to get going, Adriana :D I had a listen to your really long poem right now. It is really wonderfully read  Very expressive, fluent narration, and very clear, so one can understand the text. Well, I did not understand it all, but that is not because of your reading, but because my Portuguese is not very good LOL

For this project we need a few more details about the poem still, if you look at the other posts, you will see, they all filled out a form with some details. Can you do that please for your poem as well ? This is what we need (I already filled out some things, please fill out the red xxxx)

•URL for the mp3 file from the Uploader - https://librivox.org/uploads/icequeen/msw019_acamoes_passos_as_128kb.mp3
•Duration of recording (mm:ss) - xx:xx min.
•URL for online text - httpxxxxxx
•Title of work - A Camões
•Date of publication - xxxx
•Name of author - Antonio Augusto Soares de Passos
•Birth date and date of death of author if available - (xxxx-xxxx)
•URL for author information (e.g. wikipedia) if available - httpxxxxxx
•Brief indication of the work in a few words: (for example: poetry or prose, fiction or non-fiction, genre or keywords; will be used in the summary) - xxxxxxxxxxxx
•Language: Brazilian Portuguese

For your poem, everything was really flawless, I only found one textual error, I think. If you could have a look here:

> at 5:32: "Que scena! em quanto ao longe a patria exangue" - I hear at the end "exanguava" I think it doesn't change the meaning, but I wanted to ask you, as I am not very good in Portuguese grammar. If you tell me this is the same, or I misheard, then it's ok, you need not correct it

> what you do need to change though is the volume. Yours is a bit over our upper limit of 92 dB. We accept between 86 and 92 dB, yours is 93.7 dB. Could you please decrease the volume with -3 (don't forget the minus sign) and then reupload with the same file-name ?

Thank you and congratulations for a very great start ! I hope there are more to come. :9:

It's unbelievable, Sonia!!!!! :!:  You listened to my recording already!!! :!: Thank you so much to relieve my anguish!!! I feel like sending you million hearts... You are right and do have a sharp ear! I read enxaguava when I was supposed to read enxague, and that happened because there was something in front of the word on the screen, and I simply took a guess. Sorry I will correct again my mistakes, and again apologize for that.

Thank you very much!
Hugs!

you are welcome. I know how important a quick feedback is for new readers. :D And no more anguish !!! You are really doing GREAT !

oh but I hope you will ONLY re-record this one sentence and NOT the whole poem ! I say that because many new readers think they need to rerecord it all. Don't ! Just do the one line in a new Audacity window, amplify and noise clean and then copy/paste in your old file. You may hear a difference in sound, it often happens. But you can practice sounding the same, maybe record it two or three times until you sound similar. And a bit of sound change is not a catastrophe. And with practice, you get better and better. We all do.

I start to think I have a fairy! :9: Thank you again for everything, Sonia! Also for reminding me of that post (I just deleted it!). I have seen that someone called Leni have already recorded all of Machado de Assis, our great Master! But I wonder how crazy might be to record a solo! I want do it, though!

Dear Sonia, I'm in a hurry right now, so the recording correction I will redo later. I could, on the other hand, fill in the form you kindly sent to me in order to help me. Thank you again! Big hug!

Thank you a lot again, Sonia! You have been tremendous! I lack words to express my state of gratitude towards you.
Unfortunately, after trying for over one hour to attach that sentence   (because of the very end of that little word), I decided to pause my tonight's activities. Since I have to get up early tomorrow morning I better be a good girl. :9: To be honest, that word doesn't change the meaning at all. Is there any possibility of keeping it there? :help: :? Anyways, everything is new, including the Audacity software, so my mind feels kind of exhausted after so much effort. Break time!
I will be full-time busy tomorrow, but the day after tomorrow I guess I'll be more tranquil.
Warm hug!
God bless you!

See you around,

Adriana

Hi again Adriana

thank you for the author/poem details
To be honest, that word doesn't change the meaning at all. Is there any possibility of keeping it there?
yes definitely. I did give you the choice. I also thought that it probably didn't change meaning (I suppose it's only the past tense as opposed to the present). But I wasn't 100% sure as I am not fluent in the language, so I prefer to ask the reader's opinion.

You don't have to spend hours on correcting  Leave the line as it is. Can you only adjust the volume please ? See my second PL notes a few posts above. After that, I will ok it.

But: there may be a future recording where you have to edit and correct errors, so it is good if you learn the editing process from the start. If you want I can give you a step-by-step tutorial via PM or email. :) It's not that difficult once you have done it a few times. And it is really important to know, because you cannot always re-record the entire text just because there is one error.
