A Journey to the Interior of the Earth by Jules Verne (1828 - 1905). Translated by Frederic Malleson (1819 - 1897)

Bookworm360 is adopting this project.

Journey to the Center of the Earth (French: Voyage au centre de la Terre, also translated under the titles A Journey to the Centre of the Earth and A Journey to the Interior of the Earth) is an 1864 science fiction novel by Jules Verne. The story involves German professor Otto Lidenbrock who believes there are volcanic tubes going toward the centre of the Earth. He, his nephew Axel, and their guide Hans descend into the Icelandic volcano Snæfellsjökull ( Wikipedia)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/3748
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

If you are still interested in recording this book, I can set it up for you. Unless you have someone else in mind, I'd also enjoy being the DPL as I'm curious as to how it compares to the movie.

Thanks Craig, that'd be great. I've been wanting to do a longer science fiction solo project and have been having trouble finding something original and good. Besides, this would be the first solo version so I think it's worthwhile.
I welcome any constructive criticism!

Dan (I assume),
The first thing you should try to do is open the MW. Click on BC ADMIN (lower left just below the MW) and see if a new window opens. If so, then you can enter the chapter titles now. If you get a message that you don't have permission to open the MW, let me know. Feel free to ask questions. You may find the following useful. In solo recordings you are the BC for the book.

Great! Don't feel you have to add all the chapter titles by the way. Just stay ahead of your readings. The rows in the MW can be "dragged and dropped" so be careful as you can jumble things up quite by accident. It all can be fixed but it's better if they don't get accidently rearranged. Start recording when you wish but always check in each month even if you haven't recorded anything. I'll move this topic to the "Going Solo" forum in a day or two. We like to keep the "Launch Pad" forum tidy.

Sorry it took me a while to get around to recording. I uploaded Chapter 1 and put the link in the magic window. Do I need to do anything else or have I got it right?

At the very beginning of the intro (before the book title) you should give the chapter number. You could copy what you said in the outro and paste it at the beginning of the intro (or you could rerecord, "Chapter 1").

In the MW where it says Notes, put the file time (mm:ss). Also change the status to "Ready for PL OK."

Btw, nice read.

Don't know how I missed that, it's fixed now. Chapter 2 and 3 are up as well. Thanks, I'm sorry you have to be subjected to my atrocious attempts at accents lol

1-3 PL OK.

If you are re-uploading a file that has "corrections" use the "ready for spot check" choice in the dropdown menu. That way I will know that I only need to check part of the file.

Today I attended a lecture on a painting, "The Awakening of the Forest" by Paul Delvaux. The painting is of a scene from this novel (except for the unclothed women). Delvaux was according to the speaker greatly influenced by Verne.

4 PL OK.

In addition to indicating a file is "Ready for PL" in the MW, readers also usually post in this thread. I will usually notice the post first.
