Beyond the Stars by Charles Hanson Towne (1877 - 1949).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/beyond-the-stars-by ... son-towne/
Charles Hanson Towne was a well-known editor, author and poet. A local celebrity, he was considered by many to be the quintessential New Yorker. Besides editing such magazines as Smart Set, Delineator, McClure’s, Designer, and Harper’s Bazaar, Towne also taught poetry at Columbia University, his most notable student being author J.D. Salinger. At the age of 63, Town joined the company of the Broadway hit, Life with Father, and at 68 wrote his autobiography, So Far, So Good. ( Nemo)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/stream/beyondstarsa ... 8/mode/2up
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    Magic Window:

    BC Admin
  • The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of the first section:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
    START of recording (Intro):
    • "Section [number] of Beyond the Stars. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Say:
"Beyond the Stars, by Charles Hanson Towne. [Section name]"

At the end, say: "End of Poem" and leave five seconds of silence.

For the second and all subsequent sections, use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    DURING recording:
    • No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
    • At the beginning of the recording, read the abbreviated "LibriVox disclaimer":
"[Poem title], by Charles Hanson Towne, read for LibriVox.org by [your name]"
    • Then read the poem.
    • At the end, say: "End of poem. This recording is in the public domain." and leave five seconds of silence.
At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of Beyond the Stars, by Charles Hanson Towne. "

There should be 5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.
  • Example filename beyondthestars_##_towne_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. beyondthestars_01_towne_128kb.mp3)

    Transfer of files (completed recordings)

For future MC:

I am using the standard LV disclaimer for the 1st section, and then the abbreviated Poetry disclaimer for all subsequent sections.

The magnificent Helen (HZFerr) will be the DPL for this project!

Thank you!

Hey Helen!

Sections 1 and 2 are ready for PL!

If you are cool with it, to save time and be more efficient, I will just post in this thread when I have uploaded sections for PL.

The links and times will be in the MW for your use.

Let me know if that works for you!

Thanks Helen ... you are too sweet!

Gosh, you should have heard some of my early recordings! ..... fluid and natural would not be the descriptions you would use!

After recording about 600 poems in the last year, I've gotten a little better at it ... but still lots of room for improvement!

I'll have a few short ones for you in a bit.
