Pearl by The Gawain Poet ( - 0). Translated by George Coulton

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: [https://librivox.org/pearl-by-the-gawain-poet-2/]

A companion piece to From Jerusalem to Revelations in the Librivox catalogue https://librivox.org/jerusalem-to-revelations-a-quartet-of-spiritual-explorations-by-unknown/ Pearl, believed to have been written by the author of the Pagano-Christian beheading tale, Gawain and the Green Knight, enters the vision of a grieving father at his daughter's graveside that carries him with us into the spirit world in which she finds her dwelling place now, a pure unspotted girl, her father's pride, now a Pearl of great price and her Saviour's bride. She chides him, much (as many have noted) Beatrice does Dante in his Divine Comedy with the plain and incontrovertible fact that she now lives in the New Jerusalem in the rapture of eternal bliss, while he is wholly wrapped in his desire to be again with her. The disconnect that must exist between this wholly human feeling, a paternal grief. against the vividly described reality of a spiritual universe that she inhabits now and her perpetual happiness as Bride of the Lamb, makes for much of the quiet humour and gentle pathos of the piece. IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I've named the author as The Gawain Poet as it's thought to be. Could I drop the birth and death dates for George Coulton? I've already done two recordings without them. However, it's relatively easy to put them in. Up to you. (Bed.)

Tony,
Will set this up shortly. As to the dates, let me see what others have done.
Dave

Edit: Just to clarify, do you mean drop the birth and death dates from the intro of each section? (But the dates would be present on the catalog page.) If so, then as others have done this, the answer is yes.

If I understand the rules correctly....As the translator died in 1947 (+70 = 2017) then this book is not PD until 1/1/2018 for readers outside the US (unless you reside in a +50 country).

Yes, I'd like the dates dropped from the intro as I've already done that in my first two files. I'd been following the death date of the translator for PD status - if it doesn't begin till the end of the year of the death, rather than on the actual date, then presumably publication on Librivox can wait till the coming of the New Year? I'll assume that's so unless I hear otherwise..

Tony,
I'll move this off the "Launch Pad" later today as the pad is getting pretty cluttered. Record the file anytime you wish but do not upload the files to LV until after 1/1/18. I will be traveling beginning 1/6 for several weeks but will give this book priority before I leave.

Happy Out-Of-Copyright! Got all these loaded up so you can get them done before you go on holiday. Will start the Canterbury Tales at a slow trot. Hope you enjoy yourself.

Sincerely,

Tony,
Because it is so much easier to change things before uploading to Archive.org, please check to see if everything in the MW and book summary are to your satisfaction. I'll start cataloging once I get your okay. A nice addition to the LV catalogue.

I think I quite like my introduction to the piece. Clearly, it brings out the poet in me. So I'll leave things as they are. Thank you for your double duty, MCing and DPLing. On to Chaucer and a canter through the Tales (very very slowly - unless I get gripped as usual). Looking forward to seeing you again there - goodbye for now.
