The text link in the first post works for me (on different devices and different OS). It points to the launch page for the book where you then have to choose which method you want to view.

Here is a direct link to the html online version. Does this work for you?

https://www.gutenberg.org/files/44150/44150-h/44150-h.htm

Can you post the link you got from the Gutenberg website?
Bev

Thanks Helen.
I've quoted your PM here because I think it's important to keep all communication in the thread so that Roger is in the loop.

The link you are using is perfectly ok. It is exactly the same book.

I would still like to know if the direct link I posted works for you?
Bev

Hrmmm ... thanks Helen. I do hate unsolved puzzles. I can't figure out at the moment why it wouldn't work for you. And it bothers me that as it doesn't work for you there will be other listeners later for whom it won't work.

But as long as you have your link with which to read along we're good for the project! :)

I agree. I don't know why it wouldn't work for you Helen. Have similar Gutenberg links on other projects have worked for you in the past?

Ok, Helen, one more time can you experiment for me please?
Here are the two links that didn't work for you, can you try them from this post?

First post link to launch page of book:
http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/44150

The link I generated to the html version of the book:
http://www.gutenberg.org/files/44150/44150-h/44150-h.htm

If they work, I'll tell you how I solved it. If they don't, I'll slink back into the corner and try something different. :D

Yay!!

Helen,
I read in your introduction post that you use Windows 7. I guessed that you also use Internet Explorer browser? (I may be wrong.) I know that Internet Explorer in Windows 7 doesn't always like secure connections.

The 's' at the end of https stands for "secure". It is necessary for banking or shopping sites where the information you send is personal and needs to be encrypted for safety.

Gutenberg links work as plain http and because we're not sending sensitive information we don't need the encryption so I changed the link from https to http and it did the trick!

Roger,
I changed the link in the first post also.

Nice going Bev!

I'm sorry for all the hassle, but it looks like we're ready to move along.

As a matter of fact, chapter 2 has now been posted, and is ready for PL.

Thanks! :D
