O good grief, I didn't give you a page. I'm sorry, Pam! I'm really not firing on all cylinders today, I think.

These are incredibly sad, but some of the ones coming up are excruciating. She's confronting her own mortality head on and I've never read anything quite like it.

No matter, I found it.
Yeah and she was really slowly dying of TB.
Bad disease which gave rise to good poetry!

Hi Pam,

Sorry, this batch is a bit piecemeal! I have a favour to ask - in the last line of section 3 (John Keats), there's a Latin name. I've gone for what seemed the best pronunciation, but I also recorded a couple of other possibilities at the same time. If it's fine, terrific, but I'm less confident than I'd like to be that I got it right. Could you please tell me if I need to swap out one of the other versions I recorded? It isn't as if people are queueing up to do multiple versions of this poem for listeners, so I don't want to make a silly mistake.

Hi Erin,

Sections 2, 11, 16, 17, 46 are PL OK.

In Section 3 at 01:56 I hear “green peace” for “green place”

As for the Latin, “Caius,” it may be pronounced either kaius or gaius. According to Wikipedia, the orthography was indeterminant and the “real” pronunciation is unknown.

I see you know how to pronounce mediaeval French. Do you have any pointers on how I might learn to do this? Are there any shortcuts or helpful videos?

My best,

Pam

Uffff. Sorry about that. I'll see if I can get a patch, and if not, I'll just rerecord. It is pretty short, and I need at least one more session to get some of the errors I've caught.

The funny thing was, I was less worried about Caius, which I thought might be a hard K, than Cestius. I didn't know if it changed depending on the vowel it was next to, or some other rule of pronunciation (as much as we can ever tell these things).

I'll email you about the French. Trust me, you're going to be disappointed!

Hi Erin,

The Cestius was fine. Have you ever taken the Rome metro and gotten off at the Pyramide Cesto stop to visit Keats’s grave around the corner from the pyramid? Gaius Cestius thought it would be cool to make a miniature Egyptian pyramid for his tomb (and it was). But you know all this.
Thanks for the Mediaeval French help. I won’t we dissappointed.
