My one minute test has already been approved.
Thanks for adding me to the Reader list. My username is fine for that for now.

Section 11 re-uploaded with noise reduction applied. Thanks for the tip regarding plosives. I will experiment with microphone placement.
I couldn't hear any background noise - perhaps it's my ears or my headphones (Sennheiser HD-201). What sort of noise was it? It could be fan noise from the laptop I'm using.

Chapter 17 uploaded.
https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/lastegyptian_17_baum_128kb.mp3 9.47 KB
10:06
Also, can I do Chapter 21? I may want to do more after I finish with these but I don't want to claim too many at once.
Thank you for your help!

Ian:
Section 11 is now PL-OK. It was an undefinable humming...its the kind of thing like a heater or air conditioner or major appliance running--some sort of ambient noise that usually gets ignored. I've heard of laptops occasionally making a humming noise...I suppose it's not out of the question that its your headphones...but I kind of doubt it. Your noise reduction took it completely away. When its loud enough, it detracts from your reading. The new section 11 was completely clear!
I enjoyed your reading. Many thanks,
Philip

After listening to my recording after posting it, there are a few changes I would like to make. I need to add a hard limiter for sure. Also, I had some difficulty getting consistency in my edits so some of them sound really different ... is there anything I can do, other than recording it again, to fix that? I'm definitely willing to do so, especially since this is my first actual recording.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

At Librivox, we are not seeking perfection (if people want perfection, there are professional audiobooks they can spend money on ) so don't be too hard on yourself. Files are rarely so bad they need to be re-recorded; this causes extra work for the proof listener and often is no better.AnomolousZipf wrote:After listening to my recording after posting it, there are a few changes I would like to make. However, one of our admins has made some videos, which some readers (myself included) have found very useful: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/User:Philchenevert
In the meantime, I will assign the other section you request. You might want to wait for Philip's notes before making any changes.

Thank you! I was able to smooth it out quite a bit by just editing out a few things here and there. The limiter also helped a lot. Don't know if I need to post the link again, but I re-uploaded the recording with the minor tweaks.

Section 12 uploaded. 14 mins 40 seconds. I applied noise reduction and changed microphone position to minimize intrusive plosives.

PL notes for Section 17:
I would second everything that Lynne said earlier. However, for the most part, the audio for this file was excellent--there are just a few notes
at 00 there is a "boom" in the audio.
From 1:23-1:27, the audio sounds "choppy" as if slivers of unsound were spliced between slivers of audio.
AT 2:46; 6:03; 7:19, there are a number of really explosive plosives (all words with the "P" sound). You may wish to adjust your microphone to avoid these.
Other than that, very nicely read!
Many thanks,
Philip
