Lynda:

Here are PL notes for the first to sections:

Section 95
7:37 Repeat: Come out of Newgate, Mrs. Fry!
8:12 Repeat: Put on your decent bonnet
9:42 meanwhile Newgate low'rs
The word “low’rs” is read incorrectly.
It must rhyme with “devour” in the poem, or like “flower” This changes both the meaning and the
rhyming pattern in the poem.
11:03 phone ringing. (I think you can clip it out, then paste some silence in there).

Section 96
0:31 TEXT: Dabbling with heroes. I hear: Dabbing with heroes, a somewhat different meaning.
0:43 Text: Thou Wilberforce (rhymes with “now.”) I hear: Though Wilberforce (long “o” sound) which is a different word and meaning.
1:07 Text: Thou art sung… I hear: Though art sung Comment as above.
1:21 Text: But the old horse neighs thee, I hear: And the old horse neighs thee
4:30 Text: the luxury of wo I hear: the luxury of woo (should be long “o” to rhyme with “blow” three lines down)
5:08 Centaur! The final word of the poem should rhyme with “tormentor” in the lines above” Two syllables cen-tor as in the single word “or” Usually we don’t comment on differences in
pronunciation, but here it affects the rhyming pattern of the poem.

Hi Emkik! At the top of this forum there is a link for new readers - this is the URL below that I copied for you. In it, it describes how to set up your recording and how to do the one minute test which is required before you do a longer reading such as one in this Political Works of Thomas Hood.

Lynda,

Some notes for Section 97: (I'l also PM you)

0:18 Thou is the archaic of "you" and is pronounce to rhyme with "now" Long o is another word "though."
0:26 Thou, again
0:33 Thou, again
1:10 repeat missed edit "No handbut a handwriting on a wall"
1:41 repeat missed edit "Every one's hoax! "
1:41 repeat missed edit "Maybe ..."
1:50 repeat missed edit "Why dost thou so conceal and puzzle curious folks? "

I have not mentioned several other pronunciations that seem off to me in the first two minutes of this recording, because that is usually not a part of "standard Pl." I mention only ones the affect the meaning or form of the poem.

But, I am stopping my PL of this piece after four missed edits in the last 40 secs. of recording. Did you mistakenly upload an unedited recording? (This has certainly happened to me). So please check. Then you might do a final pass to make sure you haven't missed any repeats and edits. And with so many "Thou" words,, you might want to correct those as well. I'll hold off on PL of your other sections, too, in order to give you a chance to check them. I'm not trying to be overly strict or picky, but just trying to maintain the integrity of the text and Hood's poetry.

Hi Larry and Carolin -

Here is Section 97 which is fixed and I re-proofed 98-101 again and made some small changes to how I pronounce "thou". There were no changes to 102 so I did not re-upload it.

Thanks, and thanks for the PMs. I've got heavy commitments this weekend, but I'll get to these as soon as I can.

I saw your response to my request to record 41, but now I can't find it! Sorry! Could you let me know if I will be recording it and remind me what else you needed from me? Thanks so much!

Erinminta - it has been assigned to you if you are also emkik. If not then someone else has taken the selection in the meantime.

If it is yours, then go to Page 1 and look at the box in the middle of the screen where all the different chapters or poems are listed (called the Magic Window) and scroll down to 41 - emkik - is listed as being assigned to that selection.

Now you need to look above the magic window for the link to the book and once in the book look for the title of your recording and record away! Remember to check your sound level and for noise once you are done. Save the file using the file name below the magic window (insert 041 were the xxx's are) and then upload the recording using the link just below the default file name. Remember also to include the length of the recording in minutes and seconds (which you get from the checker software) when you copy the link from the upload page to one of these forum messages so that Carolin knows that you are done and the recording is ready for proof listening.

Good luck on your first recording
