Chapters 10 and 11 are now up. Chemulpo, I gather, was the site of a naval battle in Russo-Japanese war of 1904-05, and under its present name, Inchon, was the site of an American landing in 1950 that changed the course of the Korean War. Or tried to, at any rate, since there's still no peace treaty.

Chapters 18 and 19 are up. I'm still trying to figure out the Chinese fit in. Best servants in the world, better even than French maids -- but which side are they on?

18-19 PL OK.

I have trouble figuring out anything more complicated than Perry Mason (Usually I knew halfway through the story).

Chapters 20-21 are now up. I'm pretty sure I've guessed who the insidious Chinaman is who doped the claret glasses of Baxter and his Frenchman-without-a- name friend. But you probably have too. We'll see.

Chapters 22 and 23 are up. "Red Dawn" sounds like a Chinese communist propaganda film, but obviously we're some years before Chairman Mao one of whose propaganda pieces was "The East is Red." Google tells me that in 1984 there was a film called Red Dawn about a Russian invasion of the US. Really bad, apparently, but then in 2014 there was a remake of it, though this time the Russians had vanished and it was the Chinese who were to do the invading -- then shortly before the movie was released, someone pointed out to the studio that China is a huge market for really bad American action movies. This being Hollywood, the studio went to work, and thanks to Photoshop, all the Chinese flags and such were changed into North Korean flags. No matter --the 2014 remake was apparently even worse than the 1984 original. Google doesn't tell me how well it played in China.
