FOLK-LORE AND LEGENDS SCANDINAVIAN by Charles John Tibbits (1861 - 1935).

This project is now in the catalogue. All audio files can be found on our catalogue page:
https://librivox.org/folk-lore-and-legends-scandinavian-by-charles-john-tibbits/

Thanks to Thiele, to Hylten-Cavallius and Stephens, and to Asbjörnsen and Moe, Scandinavian Folklore is well to the front. Its treasures are many, and of much value. One may be almost sorry to find among them the originals of many of our English tales. Are we indebted to the folk of other nations for all our folk-tales? It would almost seem so.

I have introduced into the present volume only one or two stories from the Prose Edda. Space would not allow me to give so much of the Edda as I could have wished.

In selecting and translating the matter for this volume, I have endeavoured to make the book such as would afford its readers a fair general view of the main features of the Folklore of the North. C.J.T. ( Charles John Tibbits) ( Charles John Tibbits)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/15186
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I will MC this one for you Anthony. I will set it up later today. I removed the ~ from the start of the subject line. That is to indicate we need a proof listener but if you're doing it, then we don't need another. :)

MW is ready for filling in.

I changed the PG link from the html to the target page so people can choose the format they want.

I'll leave this in the Launch Pad until the MW is set up. Let me know if I've missed anything.

Have fun! :)

Sonia

Yeah, I found these and thought they sounded so cool. I love fairy tales and folk-lore from other cultures than my own!

as a kid I was totally into the Greek mythology, I knew all the convoluted family ties of the gods by heart LOL But now I also love the Nordic tales and other sagas. :9:

Thank you! I too was a scholar of Greek and Roman mythology! I found it most fascinating. I like all tales. I am looking for some Native American stuff to do.

PL NOTES:

SECTION 00 - PREFATORY NOTE

The beginning and end of the recording state "Section 1" It is actually Section 0, as it was added after the mw was already populated. Sorry for the confusion. Perfect otherwise.
