When the Holy Ghost is come by Samuel Logan Brengle (1860 - 1936).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/when-the-holy-ghost-is-come-by-samuel-logan-brengle/

"The writer, Colonel Brengle, gives us not only of the fruit of an orderly and well-stored mind on the great subject before us, but— and this is the more important—he tells us of the actual work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of ordinary men and women. The Holy Spirit is our Helper. In the work of righteousness He is a Partner with us. In the life of faith and prayer He is our unwavering Prompter and Guide. In the submission of our wills to God and the chastening of our spirits He is the great Co-worker with us. In the bearing of burdens and the enduring of trial and sorrow He joins hands with us to lead us on. In the purifying of every power from the taint of sin He is our Sanctifier.

All this is practical. It has to do with to-day—with every bit of to-day. In fact, so far from the sphere of the Holy Spirit being limited to the pulpit or the platform, or to the inward experiences of the religious life, He is just as truly and properly concerned with the affairs of the shop and the street, the nursery and the kitchen, the chamber of suffering and the home of penury, as with preaching the Gospel or healing the sick." (From the Preface.)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/6135
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I'm interested in doing a section or two for this, but will wait for the MW to be updated before deciding which specific ones (I'm scanning the book right now to see if anything catches my eye, otherwise I'll likely just say the first couple of sections).

Hi, Tricia. Are we reading chapter TITLES here? E.g., "When the Holy Ghost is come, by Samuel Logan Brengle. [Chapter TWO. Preparing His House]"

Does LV read chapter titles in general?

Don't ask me; as the BookCoodinator, Elizabby. ;)

In general, though, chapter titles are read. If I were reading for this project, I'd read it as you typed it.

Yes please read chapter title right before the text. I'll amend the first post to specify that.

Hi Elizabby,

Can you comment on how to read quotations from the text? Do we say, "quote 'blah blah' end quote"? Or just keep things flowing as though there were no quotation marks?

If it's a standalone quote then yes, that's how I read it. If it's someone talking or being quoted then no need. We are omitting the quotes at the start and end of each chapter please.

If you are planning to read for this project please claim a specific section before recording. That lets me know which sections are being worked on so we don't double up.

Also, if this is your first section I will need your catalogue name as used in your voice credit, when you say "Read by ..."

EDIT: I would Chapter 2 as good one to start with, or Chapter 11 or 21 are nice and short too! We don't usually go in order...

Thanks for your reply! I would like to claim Sec 2. My "read by" name is: T.J. LoVerde. I am just waiting for my test to be evaluated for quality. I am very eager to read and this subject is relevant to me as a pastor and preacher/teacher.

I have completed my first recording and am ready to upload. Do I, as a reader, need to fill in the meta data in audacity before uploading?
