From Slave Cabin To Pulpit and Sketches Of Slave Life by Peter Randolph (1825 - 1897)

Peter Randolph was born a slave in 1825 (?), was freed before the American Civil War, and became a clergyman in the Baptist tradition, dying in 1897. This is his 1893 autobiography. The latter third of the book is a slightly edited re-publication of a pamphlet he published in 1855 (so before the Civil War) entitled “Sketches Of Slave Life." This recording omits chapter fourteen of "From Slave Cabin To Pulpit" because it is only a several-pages-long list of friends of the author with no narrative. ( David Wales)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/00781792.4801.emory.edu
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi Dave, The mw looks fine. I'll enter titles later today. I,too, am enjoying the Lee biography. One nitpick: although understandable in 1906, the author's disingenuous use of "servant" instead of "slave" grates on me. Another instance that they don't run the world the way I know it should be run.

David,
Have you considered using in the intro/outro, "section" followed by chapter/part?

You just would need to change the intro/outro instructions not the MW. Off to the gym for me!

edit:
Another Admin has suggested changing the MW so the first 15 sections are setup similar to the way you setup the remaining sections (minus the "part").

From Slave Cabin To Pulpit: Preface
From Slave Cabin To Pulpit: 1 - Early Life

and then for the rest what you already have, but without the "part":
Sketches of Slave Life: Introductory Note
Sketches of Slave Life: 1 - The System

The section numbers 1, 2... will be added to the titles automatically during cataloging.

The gym was ok but the outdoor concert this afternoon was better.

David,
Once the intro/outro if updated, I'll move this to "Going Solo."
