Hereditary Genius by Sir Francis Galton (1822 - 1911).

This project is now complete. All files can be downloaded from the catalog page:
https://librivox.org/hereditary-genius-by-sir-francis-galton/

A biographical summary of the pre-eminent men of Britain grouped by profession. The extensive survey draws from information including college graduation, reputation during career, fellowships, and even known relatives. Includes discussions on findings and observations as well as referenced appendices. ( Leon Harvey)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/hereditarygenius00galtuoft
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    • "Chapter [number] of Hereditary Genius by Sir Francis Galton. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"

I found this copy at archive.org doing an internet search using the title and author's name. I hope you are looking for a dpl. I've been interested in FG for quite some time.

I've waited long enough for Anne to take this - but now it's MINE....

Later: Okay, looks good! I've added Dave as DPL, and changed the link to the text. Please use the archive version to read from!

Before cataloging, it would be nice if you could come up with a genre or two and a few keywords so the book is more easily findable on archive.

Have fun you two! :D

I got a scanned copy that has some minor errors such as an extra .stop. in the middle of a sentence, and there is a note about error corrections in the original text and additional print editions from Galton.org website.

The Galton page edition you linked to at first does not have any mention of any copyright, so it is not usable for us.

Please read from the archive edition instead, or any other edition where there is a pre-1923 copyright statement.

here we go.

im estimating each section will take about an hour because of a large amount of appendix references in each chapter that cant really be separated from the context.

Looks good!

I have changed the links accordingly - please always give the link to the main page (and not to a pdf or other format) so your dpl can choose which format to use.

Anyway, let's finally move this over to "going solo". Have fun! :D

In the intro you first refer to this as chapter 1 then later on in the intro as chapter 2.

i will fix that when I'm back at my desk. Having a little problem with some of the recordings I made with broken tracks. I think when I dropped my portable hard drive some of the data might have been screwed up, otherwise the laptop might have a few bugs in it

I had to start one of them from scratch because of a corrupted file, and had to take some time off during university exams. next week I should have a new track ready for upload
