Homecraft Rugs: Their Historic Background, Romance of Stitchery and Method of Making by Lydia Le Baron Walker (1869 - 1958).

Volunteers outside the USA: Lydia Le Baron Walker died in 1958. Her work is still protected by copyright in places, like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, or Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1954).

Quote:
Homecraft rugs; their historic background, romance of stitchery and method of making, by Lydia Le Baron Walker. With illustrations in color and in line, and numerous diagrams, by Mary Evangeline Walker. Also, with seventeen reproductions from photographs, many of them in color. ( Frederick A. Stokes Company)

  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    Magic Window:

    BC Admin

  • The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
    START of recording (Intro):
    • "Chapter [number] of Homecraft Rugs: Their Historic Background, Romance of Stitchery and Method of Making. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Say:
"Homecraft Rugs: Their Historic Background, Romance of Stitchery and Method of Making, by Lydia Le Baron Walker. [Chapter]"

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Chapter [number] of Homecraft Rugs: Their Historic Background, Romance of Stitchery and Method of Making by Lydia Le Baron Walker. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Only if applicable, say:
      "[Chapter title]"

    END of recording:
    • At the end of the section, say:
      "End of [Chapter]"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of Homecraft Rugs: Their Historic Background, Romance of Stitchery and Method of Making, by Lydia Le Baron Walker. "

There should be 5 seconds silence at the end of the recording, or 10 seconds for files longer than 30 minutes.
  • Example filename homecraftrugs_##_walker_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. homecraftrugs_01_walker_128kb.mp3)

    Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
    • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader: https://librivox.org/login/uploader

(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
    • You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: TriciaG
    • When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.
    • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

    Any questions?
    Please post below

This is more clarification than question: there is a List of Illustrations, a Bibliography, and an Index. I am planning on reading the Bibliography as I believe all used works should be referenced. However the List of Illustrations is much like the Table of Contents, and the Index references page numbers so I'm not sure they would be useful if recorded.

Without these two sections my number of sections to record is 44, with the Preface and Publisher's Note included.

While there is no page for the author on Wikipedia, I did dig up this link that has information on her, as well as her daughter who did all of her illustrations. http://quilthistorytidbits--oldnewlydiscovered.yolasite.com/lydia-le-baron-walker.php

I hope this additional information will assist with getting this project approved.

OK, this is set up. (The author info is handy, but not why I picked it up right now. The stars just aligned is all.) :)

I shortened the file name from what is auto-generated in the template.

As you're the soloist, you're in charge of updating the Magic Window.

Detailed Instructions for accessing the Magic Window can be found in the document linked below: Instructions for Soloists

Video showing how to use the Magic Window (read the above document first - it has the information on how to log in for the first time, which this does not have):
Magic Windows / Section Compiler: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOP4tcr1kl8

When you upload a chapter, put the file duration (mm:ss) in the Notes field and the uploaded URL into the Listen URL field, and mark it from Assigned to Ready for PL.

Holler if you have questions!

Thank you so much!! Yay for stars aligning! I hope mine do as well and I get this completed well before my planned date.

As for questions I'm copying this from my application post because I'm on mobile and am too lazy to type it all out again.

nevermind, just saw that you only put 44 sections, that ansers my question.

Sounds like a plan. Since you have a good reason to and want to read the bibliography, you're welcome to do so. Most people probably wouldn't. :)

You can always add sections (using the Add Section button at the top of the section listing when you're editing the MW). Only admins can delete sections, since that's a more dangerous tool to goof up using. :)

I've put you in, Cheryl. :)

Jessie - I'm waiting to move this out of the Launch Pad until I know you've gotten into the Magic Window. Please let me know if you need further help with that.

Hi Tricia,

Sorry life got a wee bit crazy there for a bit. I just tried to get into the MW and it's saying I don't have permissions after clicking the BC Admin link.

Also thank you Cheryl, I hope you have as much fun listening to this as I will reading it!

You'll need to log out of the uploader, if you haven't done so already. Then follow the instructions here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Soloists:_How_to_update_the_Magic_Window#Accessing_the_System_.E2.80.93_First_Time_Login

I've got the first two sections ready for PL. I put them in the magic window but because I'm used to posting it in a reply, I'll do that too...

Part 00: https://librivox.org/uploads/triciag/homecraftrugs_00_walker_128kb.mp3 (4:29)

Part 01: https://librivox.org/uploads/triciag/homecraftrugs_01_walker_128kb.mp3 (9:54)

I think I have my DBs ok, but let me know if I need to fix anything.

Section 0 PL note: There is quite a lot of low tone thumping throughout. Listen about 3:58 for a good example. I believe this is caused by touching the microphone, but not sure. Beyond that - the reading is perfect and the voice lovely.

Section 1 PL OK (very little thumping)
Good :D

Shoot I was wondering if that was an issue. I had the mic on a chair and I was sitting on a chair beside it, the cord from the mic to the computer was by my knee and I must have been bumping it. When I was editing it I thought I was hearing myself bump the cord in real time. I've redone it:

https://librivox.org/uploads/triciag/homecraftrugs_00_walker_128kb.mp3 4:22

I've also redone my recording setup... 3 boxes and a book on top of the chair with the cord hanging back behind them so I'm standing up in front of it with no chance of touching the blooming thing. Going to work on another section or two tonight, if the apparent traffic jam outside decides to right itself.

Got section 02 done too:

Sections 0 and 2 PL OK
Sounds like your new setup is working.
This was all really good, from my point of view.
