Question on 146 - this almost seems like a deja vu from another project.. I'm pondering the words "experimental faith" and "experimental religion" I wonder, but may be wrong if it should be experiential. Could the scan of the text have been incorrectly proofed?

This is at 5:24 and 5:58 in the recording. Right about halfway for the first one.

Text passed Mrs Hutchinson being murdered by Indians... Then just past "The first practice of the New England church....having children baptized. Many of the descendants made no profession of "experimentl faith"....

the next one follows "before the law of 1631" and may be in the quote "no man should be ......
"experimental religion"

Hope I'm giving you enough clues to find it easily. :)

Ha! I caught that and questioned it during editing. I even re-recorded one of them to make it "experiential". But it's a scan of the book, so that was what was printed. Of course, it could be a typo like the 1603/1693 mistake earlier, but...

I'm OK leaving it as-is, since that IS what it had in the book. :)

Four more up! Kevin's on a long bike ride.

And now I should vacuum, clean the bathrooms, and do laundry.

I'm somewhat surprised that there wasn't even a hint about the Salem witch trials.

There is so much unsettling about humans, the church, and their relationship to God. Oh I want to discuss so much but not here. ;)

Has there been a couple times in the last few days that you felt you read this before? I had that feeling in yesterday's group and again in one spot today. I wonder if that isn't yet another quirk of the book. <shrug>

Yes, it seems like parts of it get repeated. Not word for word, but the subject is related again.

I don't recall exactly where, either, but I could see how the same person might be discussed in "theological movements" and "early leaders" for example.

The author probably meant us to read one chapter at a time rather than this binge reading.

Next 4 chapters are up.

It's a shame his "to this day" state of religion in universities and in the nation aren't still true.

This pretty much concludes the "history" part. We'll now enter a survey of sorts of a bunch of different denominations and sects, then some Christian movements. (We'll get back into temperance! Yay!)

5 chapters up.

OK, so these chapters are history. They're history of each denomination in America, a brief account of their controversies, and relation of their contribution to American Christianity.

That encouragement made me sit down and record a couple more. 8-) Yes, I see the end of the project in sight, so I'm pushing on towards the end.

Two chapters up, one more uploading now.

Two more chapters uploading now. We're getting into the less orthodox groups, I think.

I was a bit on autopilot when recording and editing these. Zzzz...
