Curly by Roger Pocock (1865 - 1941).
This project is complete! All audio files are available on our catalog page:
https://librivox.org/curly-by-roger-pocock/
Arizona-set western at turn of 20th Century features an Irish lord named Balshannon, his American helper Chalkeye, and a cattle-rustler's son named Curly. Note: this book contains occasional use of racial slang common to the period.( Matt Pierard)
- Text source (only read from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/41447
- Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard
IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

- The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
START of recording (Intro):
- "Chapter [number] of Curly. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
- If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]" - Say:
"Curly, by Roger Pocock. [Chapter]"
For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:- "Chapter [number] of Curly by Roger Pocock. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
- If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
- Only if applicable, say:
"[Chapter title]"
END of recording:
- At the end of the section, say:
"End of [Chapter]"
- If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
- At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of Curly, by Roger Pocock. "
There should be about 5 seconds' silence at the end of the recording.
- Example filename curly_##_pocock_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. curly_01_pocock_128kb.mp3)
Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
- Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader: https://librivox.org/login/uploader
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin) - You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: chocoholic

I'll be happy to MC. Back in a minute with your MW --
edited: OK, you're all set! I'll leave this in the Launch Pad for another day or two. Looks like a fun book!

Going out on a limb and assuming that you're OK with DaveC being DPL

-- entered in the database. Moving to Solos now.

5-7 up, thanks.
Methinks Curly is a tomboy, on a level with the Calamity Jane portrayed in
Deadwood by Robin Weigert.

Great show, excessive profanity aside.

8-10 up. Beware 'N' word in 9, though I've heard worse in Blazing Saddles, which kind of reminds me of this story. It's dryly funny in parts, and just plain tough in others.

8
3:47-4:02, 4:55-5:05 extraneous background noise
9
Volume is just a tad high (92.4dB) and should be amplified by -2dB (Next highest volume for this book is 90.5dB).
10 PL OK.
Some readers include a statement in their book description similar to the following:
"This book contains racial and other prejudices that were once commonplace. They are retained, as originally written in this recording, because to do otherwise would be to deny they existed."

Cicadas. I had removed a huge amount of it before uploading; I'll see if I can fix that again. Thanks.

8 & 9 edited and re-upped. I re-recorded the last part of 8.
Laurie: I've added the rest of the chapter titles.
