History of the Thirty Years War, Volume 5 by Friedrich Schiller (1759 - 1805). Translated by Rev. Alexander James William Morrison (1806 - 1865)

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page here:

http://librivox.org/history-of-the-thirty-years-war-volume-5-by-friedrich-schiller/

Volume 5 concludes the History of the Thirty Years War in Germany. [Note From the first PG etext of this work: Separate sources indicate that at the beginning of this war there were about 15 million people in Germany, and at the end of the war there were about 4 million. If this is not surprising enough, war broke out again only 10 years after the conclusion of this war.]
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/6775
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Part 1 3905 words -
Read through “But no one was so bitterly reproached as the Elector of Saxony, who was publicly denounced as a deserter, a traitor to religion and the liberties of the Empire, and a confederate of the Emperor.”

Part 5 – 3353 words -

EDIT: All done. We are in business for readers and a DPL!

Hi there,

I think it's great that you suggested the History of the 30 Years War as a collective project.

And I would very much like to read one of the sections.

I am a native speaker of German - but I hope this doesn't matter when the text I am reading was written by Schiller and is dealing with German history.

So please, let me know if I can help.

Best wishes, Monika

Hi Linny,

I am really very flexible and can pick whatever part you would like to see read first.

I think it makes sense to start at the beginning?

If all goes well, I might be able to claim another part at a later stage.

So just let me know how we should proceed.

Best wishes, Monika

I would enjoy DPL-ing this, if you still need one.

Many thanks,

Thank you. It's going to be a few days before I can PL. My electric is out and streaming takes up too much of my battery. Please be patient.

Let me know if you want to claim another section.
