U.S. Money vs. Corporation Currency, "Aldrich plan." by Alfred Owen Crozier (1863 - 1939).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/us-money-vs-corporation-currency-aldrich-plan-by-alfred-owen-crozier/
In 1908, the National Monetary Commission was established by Congress to study financial boom-and-bust cycles. Senator Nelson Aldrich (Republican-RI) was chair of the commission. He, in secret enclave with a group of bankers, drafted what was called The Aldrich Plan, which provided for a central "bank" that would hold funds individual banks could borrow in the case of a bank run, print currency, and act as the fiscal agent of the US government. However, the plan gave little power to the government and seemed to give almost absolute control of the country's currency to Wall Street financiers. This 1912 book outlines the dangers and supposed duplicity of The Aldrich Plan while it was being debated in Congress. (The plan was eventually defeated, but was used as a basis for the Federal Reserve Act, which was signed into law in 1913.) - Summary by TriciaG
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/usmoneyvscorpora00croz
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

      Need noise-cleaning?
Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some constant background noise (hiss/buzz), you may want to clean it up a bit. The new (free) version 1.3.3. of Audacity has much improved noise-cleaning. See this LibriVox wiki page for a complete guide.

I'll claim sections 0 and 1, with the intention of picking up more.

Is the first part of the preface the "To Reverend Owen R. L. Crozier" page? I assume so, but just want to double check. Thanks!

P.S. omg whoa, that octopus might give me nightmares...

P.p.s. also, any idea what the signature block at the bottom of the affidavit says?

Aug? Greg? E. Brown, Braun, hm?
Judge of Civil Courts
Milwaukee County, Wis.

Wow - thank you for getting this project started

Yes, the Preface is "To Reverend Owen Crozier ..."

With you on the Octopus ... Is this one better?
Image

The signature ...
First one is August Frey
2nd ... Guy E B???
Judge of Civil Court ??? County, WS

I'd just say "Signature unclear. Stamped with the seal of Civil Court Milwaukee County"

Cheers

NB I'm still on this, life is happening! You Might not see it until after I move mid-October after my current job ends, though. Or I might submit them in a couple of days, just wanted to poke my head in and say hi. The recording is completed, editing half done, mic got packed and mailed ahead so it largely depends on whether or not I run into anything that needs a retake...

Cheers!

I am in fact alive! I’ve finally got things set up in VA and this is on my to do list. Might not get to it before the first of December due to nanowrimo sucking up my “extra” time. So sorry for the extra long delay and thanks for the poke!
