Dandy Dick by Arthur Wing Pinero (1855 - 1934).

“Dandy Dick” was the third of the farces which Mr. Pinero wrote for the old Court Theatre—a series of plays which, besides giving playgoers a fresh source of laughter, and the English stage a new order of comic play, brought plentiful prosperity to the joint management of Mr. Arthur Cecil and the late Mr. John Clayton. ( (From Introduction))
  • This play is complete. All audio files may be found on our catalog page at: https://librivox.org/dandy-dick-by-arthur-wing-pinero/

Another Pinero farce! Gender neutral as always. And Kitty will again be our most wonderful DPL!

    1. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    2. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    3. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/40700
    5. Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Not much to choose from in terms of male roles, considering most are specified as middle-aged men or older. And the one that is a "mere boy," Mr. Darbey, doesn't interest me much. Since his age isn't specified, and I rarely play servant characters, can I play Blore? :) I see that he's one of those butlers who tries extra hard to mask his working-class accent with an exaggerated posh one, and that sounds like such fun. I'll try to make Sonia laugh with my performance.

beware, according to wikipedia synopsis, he has quite a criminal edge:
He subsequently finds himself in the local police cell for administering, or trying to administer, substances to his sister's horse, substances (unknown to him) adulterated with poison by his butler.

I bet you will LOL looking forward to it.

Sir Tristram (excellent Cornish name, BTW) is described as "boisterous" in the stage directions. It'll be a stretch after Admiral "Pussycat" Rankling, but I'll do my best to boister it up. :D

Cheers,
Chris

P.S. Todd, I don't know whether you have access to a pulpit to help you get into character, but a stepladder would probably be a reasonable substitute for placing you the required "six feet above contradiction".

yes, we all thought your Rankling was way too nice and mellow with people  (*dripping irony employed*)

I notice Sir Tristram has a lot of dialogue with my George, so I try to live up to any boistering you will dish up for this one.

Can I read Noah Topping. He is described as having a rough-sounding country voice, I think I can do that!
