Hi, I'm new here, but I have read an audiobook professionally before, and I just ordered my new Snowball Ice USB microphone for recording here. I will receive the microphone this Thursday, June 22, and I'm eager to begin recording right away. I know about the 1 Minute Test, and I'm going to start with that first, of course. As soon as I get the OK on the tech quality, I would love to begin on this project.
I'd like to take Irish Folklore and The Irish Theater, if those two are still open.
Thank you! I'll have to look again to see what those section numbers are. I'll add another reply with that.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Also, I've studied Middle Welsh, and a little bit of Gaelic. I looked at the Gaelic Poetry. I might be able to give it a go, but if you have someone else who really knows Gaelic, it might be better to give it to them.
Anyway, I'm going to look at YouTube and see if there are any Gaelic lessons there. I'm good with languages, so I might be able to do it.

I found a series of lessons in Gaelic on YouTube. I've started studying it. I need to learn how the letters are pronounced, and after that, pronunciation of the Gaelic will be easy for me. I've also studied Old English, and the pronunciation seems to be similar.
These are the lessons

I'll reserve these sections for you pending your 1 minute test. In the meantime, do you have a name you wish to be credited as in the catalog? That way I can go ahead and set up your reader page.Ealswythe wrote:Sections 32 and 34. Could I please take those?
I'm looking into the Gaelic for section 28, Irish Poetry. I've studied a wee bit of Gaelic. Might work.
Also, I wouldn't work too hard on the Gaelic - unless it really interests you to do so. If you say it with confidence, very few will know the difference. LOL

Thank you for reserving those sections for me!
You can credit me as Linda Olsen Fitak.
And yes, I won't go overboard on learning the Gaelic, but I do want to have a pretty good grasp on how it sounds. As soon as I receive my new microphone, which should be tomorrow or Friday, I'll do the 1 minute test and send it to you. In the meantime. I've been experimenting with Garageband and Audacity. Today, I was able to record on both, and I exported to mp3 on Garageband, at 128 in mono, but I was not able to export to mp3 from Audacity, even though I downloaded the LAME application and library, as required. Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?

Linda,
Here's the link to your reader page in the catalog. https://librivox.org/reader/11772
The reader page is a great way to track the status of any project you're involved in.
If you click on "Reader Section Details" it brings up a listing of all the projects you've volunteered for, and the status of the sections you've claimed - from "assigned" to "PL OK" and all steps in between.

Thank you, Kristin! This helps me a lot! I went to that page, and clicked on Reader details, but it didn't show anything yet... maybe because I still have to send in the 1 minute test? I should get my new microphone either today or tomorrow. I'll set it up, and do the 1 minute test, and send it to you.
Thank you again!
Thank you again!
Having assumed that my claim of section 23 was okay, I went ahead and recorded it:

Run time is 17:41.
I'd also like to claim section 17 'Irish leaders', if that's all right.
Vive le Canada and Erin go bragh,
