The Old Curiosity Shop (version 3) by Charles Dickens (1812 - 1870).

Quote:
Nell and her elderly grandfather must flee from home after losing their shop and home to the evil Mr. Quilp. Her good-for-nothing brother, convinced that his grandfather is hoarding a great fortune intended for Nell, joins forces with Quilp to hunt them down, so that he can marry her off to his easily-led friend Nick and share in the fortune. Can Nell elude this fate? The first three chapters are told from the point of view of Master Humphrey, of Dickens' other work, "Master Humphrey's Clock." ( Brad "Hamlet" Filippone)

  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I already know he is nasty! I read this book last year and enjoyed it very much. I found it has a different feel than his other books.

I should be able to pl by Thursday, probably sooner though.

I was trying to decide what voice to use for him. What I finally decided on sounds a bit like my Scrooge/Squeers voice, but I'm actually trying to imitate the "Nagus" (actor Wallace Shawn) on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. I haven't got him exactly, but I think it works for Quilp.

Sections 4-6 are PL OK!

I think you are doing great with all the voices! When I was reading it I imagined Mr. Quilps voice as high pitched and squeaky, which I imagine would be hard to pull off but your version is pretty good
