Kate Bonnet by Frank R. Stockton (1834 - 1902).
All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/kate-bonnet-by-frank-r-stockton/

"She carried a fishing rod and line, and her name was Kate Bonnet. She was a bright-faced, quick-moving young person, and apparently did not expect to catch many fish, for she had no basket in which to carry away her finny prizes." It was the first quarter of the seventeenth century in Barbados, and Mistress Kate was the pretty daughter of a notorious pirate with her eye on a young, handsome and prosperous farmer. This is an account of the fictional daughter of infamous crony of Blackbeard, Stede Bonnet (whose only real-life daughter was named Mary). ( Lynne Thompson)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/17053
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

It sure is! I have manged to keep up with LV through a few years of chaos by 'only' having 5-7 or so projects on the go, (I used to have 20+ most of the time) but now life it getting a new normal and I finally have a steady routine  So I thought it was time to pick up some new projects since I know how much time I have to spend on LV now!

Here is Chapter 1

https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/katebonnet_01_stockton_128kb.mp3
duration 14.33.

I was a bit unsure as to the correct pronunciation of Bonnet but elected to put the emphasis on the last syllable. I do hope this is acceptable.

Cheers

Thank you. I'm not sure it matters but I would have emphasized the first syllable, like in a hat ("Bonn-it")

Would you like me to re- read and use your pronunciation ??
I thought that with the various foreign influences in the West Indies in the 17th and 18th centuries that a " french" sounding might be more authentic. I have no historical evidence on which to base this supposition.

No, I wouldn't bother re-recording especially as we don't know for sure. You're right about the French influences but the real Stede Bonnet was English by birth...
