Man Who Ended War by Hollis Godfrey (1874 - 1936).

This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project: https://librivox.org/the-man-who-ended-war-by-hollis-godfrey/
Jim Orrington, news reporter, is at the officer when the Secretary of War brings in a letter--mostly likely a prank--that demands all the nations of the world to disarm in one year or have all their battleships destroyed. This letter, signed "The man who will stop all war", is ignored by Orrington's fellow reporters and by the U.S. government, but he decides to dig deeper. With the help of Tom and Dorothy Haldane, Jim Orrington embarks on an adventure around the world trying to stop the man who is determined to end all fighting before he catapults the entire world into chaos and war! 1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/49848
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

      • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader: https://librivox.org/login/uploader
        Image
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
      • You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: kathrinee
      • When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.
      • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

Hello,
Would you be willing to accept a solo reader for this project? It looks like a fascinating story and I would be pleased to record the entire book.

Thank you for your consideration!

I would certainly be willing to have you read the whole book if you'd like to do that! I usually start group projects just so the book will get done and I don't have time to read it myself. If you want to solo it I'll sign up as DPL :D

I am an idiot who just realized that this is written in first-person and the protagonist is a man. It would be weird to have to read by a woman, right..?

Well...whatever you're good with. I once did a solo of a book written in 1st person by a guy, but he didn't fall in love in that one...

I see that casmith made a claim for the whole book back in early April, but had second thoughts about reading a first-person male part.

I also see that no chapters have been assigned, so may it be assumed she did not continue?

I have no such compunction about reading male parts and would like to claim the entire book as a solo project. Would that be okay with you?

Thank you.

Over to Going Solo we go! Are you going to be your own BC, Sylvia? I can get you MW access later tonight :)

I'm not so sure that it's a good idea for me to be my own BC due to my inexperience. I don't know what it entails and hadn't really thought about it or figured it was something I should be doing if I read solo.

Who would do it if I don't? How does that work? Is it normal for a solo reader to also be the BC? I don't want to impose on people.

I'm just not sure.

Would you help me out with additional info so I can make an informed decision, please?

Thanks.

Sylvia
