The Last Man is an early post-apocalyptic science fiction novel by Mary Shelley, which was first published in 1826. The book tells of a future world that has been ravaged by a plague. The plague gradually kills off all people. Lionel Verney, central character, son of a nobleman who gambled himself into poverty, finds himself immune after being attacked by an infected "negro," and copes with a civilization that is gradually dying out around him. How to claim a part:
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are “up for grabs.” Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you’d like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
Is there a deadline?
Revised target completion date is 1 October 2008. If you claimed a section but find out over time that you'll never do it for whatever reason - no problem - just let me know. We’re all volunteers and things happen.
Where do I find the text? Full Text at Project Gutenberg Individual chapters are linked in the notes column of the Magic Window below.
Please claim sections by number (the numbers in the first column below)!
Set your recording software to:
Bit Rate: 128 kbps
Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz / 44100 Hz
About Footnotes.
The reading of footnotes is up to you, the reader. You decide whether you like to read the footnotes, if they are particularly noteworthy and not too harmfull for the flow of the story or too long and unimportant.

thelastman_##_shelley.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is your section number from the Magic Window.
ID3 Tags: Don't worry about id3 tags. That's my job.
Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Include the hyperlink for the file, the file size, and the duration (mm:ss) of the recording.
Two changes have been made to the LibriVox Uploader:
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
New step: before you upload, you'll have to select the project's MC, who for this project is kr - kayray
This change helps us organize files and clear finished projects from the Uploader.
Please use the LibriVox Uploader...it's the preferred option for MCs because the files are then on the handiest server for cataloguing.
I'll need the following information from you when you submit a recording, if you have not previously submitted one:
your name/pseudonym as you want to appear in the LibriVox catalog, and your website URL if you like. These are only necessary if this is your first LibriVox recording.
Any questions?
Please post below or PM the new BC, PaulW.

Oh, this sounds interesting. May I lay claim to chapters 1, 4 and 4a in volume 1?

Quick question, should we not say at the start of recording for example "Chapter 1, Volume 1, of The Last Man etc etc.."... so that people know which chapter in which volume they are listening to?

Yay, no download-upload work for me. Thank you very much, Rowen. I fixed the first post concerning your suggestion to let readers mention each chapters volume number. Very important, how could i forget.
